Something like this would be so beaufitul in your very lovely room. Just reface the brick with a modern natural stone look found at tiles/stone shops...smashing.

actually they are all white so fade into background, especially once they are full, although i agree about tv. what is more issue to me blinds and hanging lights.

That is a beautiful mantle in the photo Susan posted. The blinds I could live with. Lighting and fan....need some work. What an incredible huge room you have. Nice view.

Just remove the shelves and hang the TV on one of the sides you remove the shelves from. Then add art one the other side. We have a good example from a design we did for a client:

Depends on your budget. But for biggest impact and least $$, go with Design Directives idea..Then beef up your mantel-I would add a big weathered wood piece. Go lower with it, not any higher..Change out the light fixtures and fan..Add full length window treatments. Great sized room! Congrats on your new home!

I agree with jd gail and DD and would also suggest that you change the hardware on the cabinetry. The current ones jump out as little black dots- go for something less noticeable and more sleek.

oh, and when you remove the shelves also take off the shelf/trim (?) that runs along the wall on the top of the fireplace

Is anybody headed in the right direction?

Here are images of the total room.

Location for area rug, new chandelier, pin point spot for art over fireplace & place TV on solid wall. Beef up thickness of shelves on either side of fireplace.

We plan to add recessed lighting and wrap the beams to match the hardwoods (staining darker)- Would you put a chandelier or just the recessed lighting?

We also plan to knock out these walls for a more open concept.

On BeverlyFLAD's design - wouldn't the windows across from the TV cause a glare?

What's the vote if we did the following-

Rock/Stone the fireplace and a Beefed up wood Mantle... would you,

A. Do built-ins like Home Interiors With Ease pic (glass doors) and hang the TV above the mantle

B. Remove current shelving, hang TV on one site and art on the other

C. HELP! You tell me!!!!!

one more thing, in the pic I posted with the TV to the side the comment below the pic was Media room facing pool.....um, do you have the pool too? Just caught my eye, lol.

I like TV down low so I say on the side, but you have to consider there rest of the family and their desires, so it really is up to you, but at least you have some ideas to choose from......I am not a designer but love to find pics that promote what I think would look good....I suppose I should learn how to Photo shop my own ideas into the pics.....hmm.

If TV in area left of fireplace, you can place most of your furniture facing the pool-my vote..I would still put a pair of swivel chairs w ottoman along windows so they can turn toward fireplace/tv, sofa/sectional or pool. How many are you hoping to seat.. How long do you see being in this home? Oh to have your dilemma! Going to really enjoy seeing this room come to life...What are the dimensions the two shelving unit sizes and above fireplace? Is there already a support beam where the bar wall is?
