It would help if we knew what rootstocks your apples are on? I have apples on M7 rootstock spaced 15' apart. If on a more dwarfing rootstock (M26, Bud 9, Nic 29) then I would space 8' apart. For MM111 then space 18' apart.

My tart cherries and peaches are all planted 15' apart as well. I have a spacing of 20' between my rows.

A new area I am planting next spring will be apples all on Bud 9, Nic 29, pajam ect. These will be individually staked and spaced 8' apart with 16' between the rows.

It also depends on if you are planning to prune your trees to keep them small/smaller, or if you are planning to let them grow to their full height.

Edited to add... Here's an example of keeping fruit trees small. Using this method, they are kept quite small.

It is recommended that the semi-dwarf-18 to 20ft,dwarf 8-10 feet. I was hoping to plant them closer if possible. spartanapples-Thanks for your help

Yes, you can keep them all to the height that you choose. You can even keep them much shorter than 10-12 ft, if you want. It depends on how you prune them. ;)
