Big wall. What to do?

Hello. Looking for for advice what to do with this wall. It's about 12ft tall, 22ft long. This media console is about 3ft tall by 7.5ft long.

i wish I didn't get the sectional. I thought for this big room big sectional would work. But I wish I had gotten a couch and couple chairs.

Any advice how to fill the space? It just looks empty to me...

For a low cost fix. You could find just one large piece over tv, then re-arrange your existing items to balance everything out. If you have paper and tape you could hang them on the wall to find an arrangement before making more holes in the wall.

Take a picture then post it here for placement suggestions. You should be able to get the arrangement to include your existing lamps and existing photos with just one larger piece of art. The you will know what size print to look for. Please post it though. If you want it to look great, then the combined input on this blog is helpful.

New houses, children, children, children and extra money don't usually come at the same time.

I can't quite figure out your drawing. The bug grey area on the left is art? Why frames over it? Stuff in the right - move frames around to fill in the space?

    So true about money:)

Sorry, the grey on left was just erasing your items. Attempted squares on the left is an example of your items moved. Just like the arrows on the right.

Rearranging the items and closer together would bring the grouping together, along with a new larger piece of art on top.

    Got ya.

Would you put a sign of some sort, something with writing?

I have no vision when it comes to design. I love pictures, but can't recreate...

I'm hoping your walls are not as yellow as they appear in the photos. I think once you find a rug, you could consider a painted color block on the wall and reinforce it with some graphic selections.

I would also change out your ceiling fan that appears too small for the room.

I would get a larger television and mount it on the wall above the media console. I am not a fan of the little things you have hanging on the wall to the left and right. I understand you are trying to fill the wall but this is not helping. Consider a large piece of artwork to the left or right of the television. I would get an area rug, some colorful pillows. Do you need the ceiling fan? I would prefer a nice light fixture without the fan if you can live without it.

Thank you all. The color block is a great idea!!

Yes, new large light fixture is on the list. This was builders standard.

I DO want a larger tv, I'm trying to convince my DH that we need it for decor reasons... he thinks everything is fine, even great :/

my walls are beige. Light makes them funny looking sometimes. I plan to re plaint grey after kids stop coloring on them with crayons in couple of years.

BeverlyFLADeziner, do you have any suggestion links for art work? And that rug? Where do (regular) people can get something?

Gray &Walter, links for light fixtures?

I like to shop (regular person here ;) at RugsUSA.com, art.com, icanvas.com, Wayfair, Joss & Main, Overstock and Houzz of course. Hope you find all sorts of pretty things.

Tat, I shop Overstock and Wayfair for rugs, and GreatBigCanvas.com for art in a variety of sizes along with Etsy.

Not sure the rug I showed really complements your sectional color, but it complemented the artwork I had selected.

If you turn off the overhead light you will get a better idea of the true wall color. Use lamps only. Your beige walls are fine, so much better than gray! Do not succumb to that trend!

Could you put an end table and lamp between the end of the sofa and the wall? The lamp would take up some of the visual space on the big wall. Your pretty, little lamps look more like bedroom lamps. Go with something bigger.

Your room is very pretty. I would just remove the shelves and then wait until the right art comes along. You do not have to rush to fill the space.

I may be 'off' but your symmetrical was ok by me - unless you want to change it. I'd rather see the fireplace area have more attention, with canvas art...

Counters look a bit earthy? and wondering if burnt orange throw would be good? and that with green in fp art?

I would do a wall unit for the wall. The tv unit alone is way too small for the space.

Brown, beige, more brown. I hope the new rug has some color. You hate the beige walls, so paint them in a color from the rug. The sectional and the rug have to stay until the kids get bigger. The tv console is fine, but you need some big art on the big wall. The console can be moved so the tv isn't centered, allowing a larger space for some bigger art: a framed poster, a framed painting, a wall hanging, something bigger than what you have. Get rid of the small things including the small lamps. The art can provide some color. If the rug has colors, select one or two colors in the rug (not related to brown) for pillows, several accessories, and a soft throw.

Thanks for the sites! Some I knew, somw I didn't. I'll be looking!

I did rush into a few things. And that's because I started with this.

Grapefruit, I can't put anything aound ANY side of the sectional because it's a walkway. Big but tight space.

I thought that a mirror over the fireplace will add some depth and light ( as it's against the window). I will look into a large art!

Felizlady, to paint I need about1.5-2K for the space including ceilings. Office, kitchen, dining room(current playroom). It's all connected. I can't afford given that kids have creative moments. For now they stay. 2-3 years.

But I'll start looking for a giant art. I honestly haven't seen anything like that size at stores. So online i guess...

And I know, I need color! I want color!!

Question. What style of super latge art would work here? Landscape? Street life? Like what?

Consider adding a pair of tall modern shelving units -- one on each side of the tv cabinet -- for any items you choose to display rather than hanging items on the wall.

    https://secure.img1-fg.wfcdn.com/im/e77ec575/resize-h225-p1-w225%5Ecompr-r85/3415/34151918/Massena+71%22+Leaning+Bookcase.jpg

The shelving units would enable you to unclutter the tv cabinet. The lamps and tv are enough atop that cabinet.

ProBev's graphic prints on each side of tv - this? but maybe with large mat[s] cause only 24" prints. Is background same color as curtains too?

HEY EVERYONE: Tat R Has already purchased this grey rug. Biege and cream curtains At this time, a different rug new paint, new TV and new TV console/wall unit. She likes blues, greys and yellows. Sound to me that she really would like guidance in finding just some large (not expensive) art to balance her TV wall. And fireplace.

THIS IS THE RUG SHE ALREADY ORDERED in grey

    Curtains

Tat R - Your artwork can be any style you like. Online is usually the best place to find art. As Beverly stated, GreatBigCanvas.com and Etsy.com has good pricing and quite a selection.

Here are several styles as examples that would look great on your wall or fireplace. Just go on the websites and keep looking until you find something you like. Once you find it, then google it to get the best price.

Jostle Wall Art By: Jill Martin

Lady Sings the Blues Wall Art

    'Beach Fence' Robin Scott

    'Landscape Classic II' B. Karas

    Carol Robinson's 'Spring Migration'

"At the Beach III" by Rosa

    "At the Beach" by Rosa

    'Morning Chorus' by Carol Robinson

I love the beach art and the mountain landscape above. I will check those. I probably should have gotten more colorful rug, but I just didn't want to spend any money on it. I like several above, I saved the links.

curtains - yea, should have gotten other color as well. It's on my list of things... We actually use them everyday, and the windows are wide, so i had to get 4 panels for each window, so total of 8 panels. Ouch.

Would it be too much art if I had 2 large art pieces on around the tv and another one over the mantel?

I love the curtains and the rug will work fine. Just need some color in your art and maybe pillows. I agree that with small children, you don't need an expensive rug.

I briefly look on greatbigcanvas and 40by 60 canvases are $300-400 each.. plus shipping. Is that a normal price for this kind of art? Just to get some ideas...

For the TV wall, simply remove everything from the media cabinet and adjust your shelves like so:

You might put more compelling pictures on the shelves. I would do them in black and white.

How large is the mirror over the fireplace? That's about the size of art you need. Try http://www.gallerydirect.com/ They're a little less expensive than Great Big Canvas or art.com.

Black and white will have more impact. I brought the shelves even closer to the TV to make the grouping more cohesive.

"The TV is big enough" said what husband ever? He sounds adorable.
I actually like the sectional. Fits the scale of the room and you're in the snuggle stage of life.
IKEA can be a great source for inexpensive, big art.
Chalkboard paint also comes in different colors, you could color block the wall behind the sectional for the kids to create some art. It would be messy, but fun.
    Oops, I realize it's not a wal...the coffee hasn't kicked in yet.

RE: 40x60 canvases $300-400 + shipping. Is that a normal price for this kind of art?

Yes, that is a low price for designers.., LOL! In my house, we only spend large amounts on items that we really LOVE and know we will keep for years. Don'y worry, you will have more extra money when your kids move out!

I agree with groveraxle regarding buying art the size of your mirror or slightly smaller. You should be able to find something around $100. But don't rush, make sure you love it, you will be looking at it quite a lot.

Once again, the fact that your rug, couch and curtains are neutrals is perfect. You have more flexibility to change your accessory colors.

What is the picture hanging over the piano???

Here is what the piano looks like. Picture was super cheap and bug, and I kinda liked it. So I it.

    I know I need a larger tv, but that's 2-3K. Large art - about 800$.

I like the look when the pictures and shelves are close to the tv. How do you do that? Photoshop? So I can try.

i like that landscape art above. I might get that.

Is the mirror over the fireplace really a no no? I thought it was ok. Oops. I didn't like my square one. I was thinking to replace it with an arched mirror. Kinda like this look

We might have somw money when kids at least go to school and we don't have day care expence. It's more than a mortgage..

I didn't get it that rug is on the way: grey, brownish and beige, etc.... I just received email about chalk paint in bright yellow... idea, and it's cheaper elsewhere maybe... for coffee table? in the center of it all....

You can like, and I can like, anything super cheap [you said about piano's art] - don't bother spending on a colorless mirror.... what's wrong with another art piece you like for there?

I like the picture over the piano. Have you tried switching it with the mirror? The floral picture might be big enough for the fireplace. Just set in on the mantle and set the mirror sideways on the piano. The post pics for everyone.

I would also like to know what program groveraxle uses to place items in her photos.

    I use Photoshop Elements.

The mirror over the fireplace is only a no-no because it doesn't reflect anything worth looking at.

If I put art on the mantel, do I need to put anything else there?like vases etc?

You can probably leave the items you have on there.

I found this. Can it work?! Credenza that goes in top of my console.

No. Please don't buy that thing. First, it's dated. Second, it's a junk magnet that will have you running out to Hobby Lobby looking for a bunch of tchotchkes to fill it up.

You've heard that Rome wasn't built in a day. Well, room wasn't either. Take your time. Consider what you'd like to look at every day. Find things that are beautiful or interesting or that have meaning to you.

Your shelves will be fine if you move them to make a more balanced composition on the wall. Then you just need to curate the items you put on and around them.
