If you are moving in the not to distant future I would let it be. If he dislikes it he can deal with it if, "the not too distant future" means a year or less. Some may love this in your region for resale as I was born/raise in Southern CA.

A lot going on in this house that is far from cohesive, but the fireplace to me is the last I would address if you are moving sooner rather than later. The furniture is Restoration Hardware, the fireplace is So. Cal. and it's a mish mash. The art......

Would love to take it in more of the restoration hardware direction and less SoCal. The mural in the dining room is a dilemma as well. Some people think it's priceless, others suggest wallpaper. Wondering if you have any other suggestions. "Near future" I mentioned could be 3 years or retain as second home indefinitely.

Yes, if you want the RH look the mural will fight all the way and you need so simplify the whole home. I just wonder where in CA this home is. AS an example if it is Palm Springs you should leave it for those that come next as it will most likely me mid century modern or similar yet many will still love the fireplace.

The house is very dark... you have an art piece that is completely not in keeping with the home. You have mantle lanterns that don't belong as such. You should think of odd numbers. One, three, five.... the fireplace regardless if you change it is way too symmetrical in decor.

I'd have only one lantern on the lower left w/smaller from the upper mantle next to it a tall and opposite in single on the hearth. You can play with if you want the single tall or shorter.

I would leave the mantle plain for now.
