Semps/Planter Material

I just got some new semps about two weeks ago and got them potted up nicely in some terra cotta pots. I wasn't even thinking about them staying outdoors for the winter and the pots cracking. I'm wondering if glazed ceramic would be a better alternative choice. The only thing I fear with those is I drilled the holes myself so there's definitely exposed untreated material. The only other thing I have on hand is ugly plastic! I always want what's best for my plants though so I'm willing to sacrifice looks lol. One more question is I have plenty of time before freezing temperatures but I'm wondering if it would be better to repot now or wait a couple months? I hate to repot and repot for fear of damaging the roots over and over.
