Kitchen - old fridge space to fill

We have a rental house where the most frequent kitchen complaint has been about the refrigerator. The space for the fridge isn't big enough for a modern fridge (ie with water/ice in the door). So, we purchased a nice fridge and put it on an empty wall.

Any ideas on what to put where the old fridge was located? It is a 30 gap between the last cabinet and the wall.

We considered installing a pantry style cabinet but there is nothing that will match 30 year old cabinets.

We are thinking we will tear out the top cabinet and paint the walls to match the room, but it is just an odd little gap next to the wall. (30 inches)

How could we make the gap useful (or at least not look like, "hey, they got rid of the old fridge!"
