This operates with spring "balls" that have lost their "spring" The tool handles just fall through

Tried thick rubber bands on handles to increase 'grip' without success.

Has anyone tried to fix something like this with any success?

It was not expensive, and I'm happy to buy one that t will work for more than a couple of years.

I think it is more practical to just mount old fashioned spring clips to a board on the wall. I saw one for $79 but it could be made for about $7.
