My condo lobby

The wall are a mud brown on the bottom and a lighter brown on top. The leather sofa are new and also brown. The large picture is IKEA fabric and the other in different colours a poster. I think the whole lobby is too dark and very unsophisticated. How can it be made to look elegant and expensive like our homes are?

If the art and pillows picked up on the colors of the floral arrangement it would be better. I'd paint that raspberry door in a warmer color too. The small demi-lune table should go on a shorter wall (maybe behind that chair under the fire alarm.) The round table with floral should go between the two chairs pulled closer together under the sconces. A new piece of art that picks up on the floral colors should go there and hang centered 5' above the floor. Art behind the sofa should hang 5" above the sofa back.

I like the color of the walls, but I think the furniture selection looks cheap cheap cheap!!!

It's certainly possible to order a tufted sofa and chairs in vinyl if the HOA is concerned about soiling. HOAs are always concerned that things will walk off if they are too nice, but items can be bolted to the walls.

Thank you for your comments. All of these items were here before I bought my place. For the last 8 months I have tried nicely to make suggestions and I have written the Strata manager. I finally needed other voices to help me. If there are more suggestions, keep them coming please.

Yes they are artificial flowers given as a gift, so they don't want to offend the giver by getting rid of them!

Spend some $$ on it. Replace all the sconces to something more unusual.

Uttermost 22484 Brandon 1-Light Nickel Wall Sconce · More Info

Remove the "dirt catcher" rug from the middle and replace it with a large printed area rug.

    I love this bright one.

    Or..more subdued.

Casa Marble Rug, Blue and Gray, 7'10"x10'10" · More Info

Move the two chairs to the center of the room. Move the sofa into the center also, facing the chairs. Make sure your rug is large enough that all legs of the furniture fit on it. Put your end table between them as a coffee table if it isn't too high. Move the console table across from the elevators. New large abstract art for both walls depending on rug.

    No pillows on the furniture.

No rug or center furniture arrangement for the lobby. The building must keep the center walkway open for deliveries and handicapped.

Maybe the plastic flowers can be one of the things that "walk off" wink wink?

The artificial arrangement could work for the manager's office. Who is to foot the bill for the changes? What is the budget? Who bought the raspberry art and pillows? How offended will they be? Should you try to work with that person, as they have some authority to do such things, but apparently need some guidance as far as taste and coordination go?

What color should the red door be? All other doors are dark brown and this one to the party room could have stayed dark brown as it is seen as you enter the building.

If you don't have the room for a center arrangement of furniture, I would still do away with the commercial runner and create cozier seating areas. Pull the chairs closer to the console table and replace the art there. Pull the side table close to the sofa. Choose art that can tie in with the artificial arrangement. Remove all the pillows.

IMO the entryway isn't wide enough to place all the chairs together either. I would choose two of the same sofa to be placed on both sides or the single arm chairs. The single arm chairs need to be placed straight forward not in an angle with the side table that is next to the sofa between them and the picture piece is too small

Also place the console next to the sofa

I agree that pulling in the chairs closer to the console table will work better. It might encourage two people to sit and have a chat in the lobby. I also don't mind the art over the console as it relates to your city. It should be hung about 6 inches lower though. The lobby and furniture have a contemporary look to them so I agree new sconces would be a nice update. Something like these are more updated with cleaner lines and are only $128 ea.

Here are a couple of options for art that picks up on the colors of the floral arrangement.

A simple pillow like this could work.

The console table is too tall to place between the two chairs. The shorter table should go with them. Put the console table on a shorter wall or opposite the elevator, if it is not for freight with which the table might interfere. Tables with seating should arrive 1" above or below the arms if at all possible.
