If you're going with the Cashmere Finish from American Woodmark in the full overlay Shaker door, that could be quite nice. The cabinets are modestly priced, but that color would be hard to come by in any other company including IKEA.

Any comments on the quality? I'm usually not one to go to big box stores as I prefer to help out the small guys, but this promotion has me thinking!

I sold American Woodmark about five years ago and their cabinet quality is fine but I always had issues like things being delivered to the wrong store (or sometimes a competitor) trim not being finished correctly. I always had good experience with MasterBrand cabinets (available at Lowe's) and Kraftmaid. We sell Merillat, which is made in the same factory as Kraftmaid, and have very few quality and shipping issues.

Look at the warranty for any cabinet you buy. It's a reflection of the company's confidence in their product which is determined by testing and past performance. A five year warranty means that after five years a cabinet may have issues and the company won't stand behind it. If you're moving in two years, fine. If this is your carry out home (They'll have to carry you out in a pine box) you'll want something with a longer warranty. This blog post may give you some more guidance.

They are built of industry standard material types. Nobody keeps cabinets for 50 years anymore, and no cabinets really survive a kitchen flood, so I'm not sure that the differential is going to be as great as you might think. If this is in budget, has a color you like, and has enough features to allow you to design a good working kitchen (I don't know Woodmark as I have usually gotten Diamond for my projects), then I think I'd say go for it. A factory paint finish will last better than anything you do at home, but it won't be immortal from any company. If nothing else, ask what kind of warranty they come with.

Diamond Prelude is good quality, lifetime warranty and lot's of styles and finishes. To keep the price down, choose a stile and rail cabinet door, not a mitered style.

Yes. If the wood comes together at an angle, it's mitered. Usually a mitered door has a lot of edge accents and profiles.

American woodmark is a nice little company... they make a standard particle board box but you can upgrade to all plywood construction. They have a select number of doors in a few finishes per door. Fabuwood is a Chinese import - all plywood box using Blum ( very good quality ) hardware for doors and drawers. Kraftmaid will be a step up form these 2 - much more to choose from and a higher price tag... Some of the risk you will encounter with the big box is not necessarily the product, but the people you will work with. While there are some good designers there, my experience with what I have seen come across my desk is quite the opposite... please do not be afraid to venture into a local showroom... if you really like the American Woodmark door , then find a local dealer who sells Timberlake cabinetry - same company and the same doors...

Look at Shenandoah from lowes. That's who I picked, had them for 10 years and 3 boys and they still look and work great. I liked them because their doors are solid not veneer. Everyone else was veneer for the same price.

Short lesson on cabinet construction: Every door made by just about any cabinet company that manufactures in the US has solid wood stiles and rails. The option for veneer in a raised-panel door is just for the center panel. Flat panel doors have plywood center panels. Painted doors have an MDF (medium density fiberboard) center panel because MDF doesn't expand and contract like solid wood. MDF isn't used because it's a cheaper option, it's used because the profile cut into it is sharper and it performs better over time.

Greenbriar is right, Shenandoah is made in the same factory as Timberlake, last I heard.

Of the cabinets at big box stores, I like Schuler at Lowe's.

We chose Conestoga Wood Specialties RTA cabinets, all plywood, that are comparable in quality to all plywood version of Schuler. Fully customizable to 1/16". They are also available with particleboard sides.

We had huge savings with CWS.

CWS is just down the road from us, they are a marvelous product.

Purchase ten years ago and were beautiful - initially. But. They continually chip and finish wears despite being installed in a home with two adults. They replaced some cupboard doors on two occasions and refused to do so again despite the guarantee. That is the most disheartening part. We will be spending for cabinets again next year. One should get more than 10 years from cabinets and the company should stand behind their guarantee

I special ordered these cabinets from Home Depot for my new construction. I was told that they could take up to six months for the order to be fulfilled. They ended up coming in four months. Because of covid, our house was taking a long time to build because nobody wants to work anymore and we couldn't find help. My husband and sons had to work on getting the project done. The cabinets have been sitting in the same spot in our garage since they were delivered.

We are finally at the point of installing them. Most were in good shape but two of them were not even properly put together. The beads of glue were in the grooves but the side panels were never pushed into the grooves. They were left unattached and packaged for delivery sp the cabinet was falling apart in the box. The double wall oven cabinet was only big enough for a single wall oven.We called our salesman from Home Depot and he argued with us about the opening even though we gave him the dimensions of the wall oven upon ordering. He then said that they don't offer custom cutting and that they are stock cabinets. So why did we order custome cabinets at twice the price? We had to have the cabinet modified by a woodworker and order smaller top doors. Because the date of the invoice is over 90 days (it took 120+ days to get them), they will not honor replacing the defective cabinets. So I have to say that my complaint is against both the manufacturer and the vendor. I paid almost seventeen thousand dollars for these "custom" kitchen cabinets and I have had nothing but a headache with them. Spend a bit more and get a better brand and better yet, get them somewhere other than a box store like Home Depot. Lesson learned.

Usually with American Wood mark ( and other companies in that level, you have to remove a drawer or 2 and cut the faceframe down lower ) . Been selling like that for years and never had an issue. Standard contractor installation.

As far as you being told these are custom cabinets - that is incorrect. They may be customized for your space - meaning you have rollouts, pullouts, glass doors, etc.

So sorry you went through this...

Usually you have anywhere from 30 -90 days after DELIVERY to report damages for warranty replacement. Did you try contacting American Woodmark direct?

Hi Debbi and Hu. Debbi, I was told by the salesperson that the oven cabinet would be cut and he asked me for the spec sheet printout of my wall oven. I am new to this and I took his word. My husband built this third house of ours with help from our sons. We had a finish carpenter come to install the cabinets and he had to modify the opening. The wall oven cabinet looks great now but I was given misinformation by the salesperson. Hu, my garage is heated. All of the cabinets were in perfect condition except two. They clearly forgot to press the side panels into the front frame as the glue beads were not compressed at all and you could see where they tried to fill the gap in with extra glue and putty to cover up the errors. This was a manufacturer goof-up and had nothing to due with being in an unconditioned garage. After writing this review, I drove to home depot with the cabinets in my SUV. I spoke to the manager and he gave me no problem with replacing the two cabinets. He agreed that they failed to meet final inspection standards. I told him about what the salesperson told us about the wall cabinet and how he told us that they wouldn't do anything about it and he was a bit surprised. He said that he will have a talk with the salesperson about it. Thank you both for your time in responding to my conundrum.

Semi custom is a term that most people do not understand when they hear, and may mishear it as ”custom” . It covers things like AW cabinets that are stock, but offer some very minor depth adjustments to their wall cabinets. Being able to order 9” deep wall cabinets instead of 12” ones does not qualify as semi custom in almost any other cabinet line Any other semi custom cabinet line offers a great deal more customization options. None offer oven cutouts, until you get up to the custom realm.

Builder grade products are never custom.

Installed kitchen cabinets in 2016. As you can see from the photos, the doors are made out of MDF. This started about 2 years after installation. Every base cabinet door is damaged. American Woodmark Cabinets purchased from Home Depot.

Water damage from abuse is not covered by anyone’s warranty.

In the process of remodeling our house. Ordered kitchen and bath cabinets from Home Depot. Went with what I would consider medium grade from American Woodmark. Delivered in record time. The construction of the cabinets was fine for the most part. The stain finish was awful, however. Zero quality control at the factory. I believe every door had at least one side where the stain was almost non-existent. I took many pictures and met with HD rep. (see the 'white' line on the right side in the picture...) They were understanding. They contacted the AW rep. They mulled it over for a week and told me they were not interested in working to try and solve the problem. They would come pick up the cabinets and give me a refund. I would definitely NOT recommend this company or their products.
