Has anyone used Protec LVP by Diamond W?

I've done so much research on LVP. I know the "top" brands and what is most popular. My flooring guy uses Protec by Diamond W and I can't find any reviews on it. I ADORE the color (and my flooring guy), but the one I like only has a 12ml wear layer, so I'm concerned (I have 4 young kids so I need super durable). I'd love to know if anyone has heard of this brand or has experience with it. Thank you!

Hi! Did either of you end up installing? We also LOVE the cork color but we can’t find any reviews online and we are also worried about the 12mL wear layer. The other brand we’ve been looking at is CoreTec and it has so many reviews and it’s 20mL wear layer, but we don’t love the color as much.

We are in the same boat with Cork Protek, love the color but so few reviews! Did you push forward with the install?

Lizzie, a color we found really close was Williamson Oak in the CoreTec Plus XL enhanced. Cant really see from the online pictures but we've got both samples (cork and williamson) sitting in our living room now and they are quite similar, Williamson seeming a bit warmer I think. Carpet One also has the Invincible brand which is Cortec and they had a color which I thought was identical to Cork, here it is: http://www.carpetonelagrande.com/shop/hilltop-trail-multiwidth-plank_tidal-waves_35914158#reviews

Hey! We went ahead and ordered the protek but not installed yet—will keep you posted!

We did also look at the Williamson oak coretec, we just didn’t like the color quite as much even though the product had a ton of positive feedback.

its going in our hallway, kitchen and bathrooms

That's exciting! I assume you went with the color Cask? I haven't been able to find out who even manufactures ProTek, cut sheets, etc. Do you have it at your house? If so could you take a picture of the details/fine print installation sheet?

The reason I ask is I've noticed that some vinyl planks require t-molding thresholds in doorways and elsewhere for expansion joints if you put it throughout your house (which I intend to do) and I really don't like the look of that. As I'm sure you know its hard to find info on this brand but we are leaning toward going with it!

Has anyone installed the ProTek? We love the Kiowa color from their Broadmoor line, but can't find reviews on it anywhere! Broadmoor Kiowa

Hi! Curious if anyone on this thread used ProTek. I have the "cork" color sample in my home now but wondering if 6.5mm thickness and 12 mil wear layer is enough for my busy household (3 boys, 2 dogs). If used, it will go through my entire 1st floor (approx 1400 soft). Thank you!

So can anyone send me a pic of the protek and color cork. If so can you post pics

We had protek lvt installed in our kitchen and most of our home. We used the color “cork”. We used installers and did not get a mat under the floor — it was not recommended. The floor popped at first but has settled now and is SILENT. It’s a beautiful floor and paint the painters spilled even came right off. I would recommend this floor to everyone. I don’t know how easy it is to install on your own though.

So wait did you glue down or float it.

It’s a floating floor. No glue.

Ok yes. I was told you can do it either way. I will have it floating but i guess’s on stadia it always has to be glued down. So then you didn’t put a pad under it. They ahowed me at the store a pad that goes under it. So happy you like it. It looks so good in your kitchen. Thanks for sharing the pics.

Jolene, can you take a side view picture of the vinyl, I want to see how thick it is,...thanks ahead of time.

Are you happy with the lake wood? I am stuck between that, cork or cask. Thank you for your response

Side view of the one threshold? I love our color choice with our tile hearth and hallway. The tile here is tiny bit higher but we did glue down because I am sensitive to the clicking sound of dogs nails and the feeling of give.

I hope you install and floors are great! Splen Dence post some pictures!

How is this Brand holding up for those who installed?

Thinking of installing the sagebrush color on the first floor on our new build home. Are there any published reviews of Pro-tek? Not much out there about this company on the web. Are they private label?

Can anyone else send photos of the ProTek flooring in different finishes?

I’m debating between the Sierra lodge or Kings Canyon. Hard to tell from the floor sample which one would look better on an open floor plan.

    Please post thank you!

Pam...it has held up great! Still very happy with our choice!

Where has everyone been ordering protek flooring from?

Lisa (and Everyone): I, too, really like Diamond W's Pro-Tek LVP flooring. In my case, I really like the Breckenridge color. I'm getting my flooring as an upgrade on new residential construction (Pardee Homes). That said, the flooring upgrade is costing me something like $35,000 for a 3,700 sf house, so naturally, I'm nervous, and the Diamond W website is poor (compared to competitors like Mannington). Diamond W only offers one (!) picture of Breckenridge (gee, thanks guys), and they have been unable to steer me towards a "real world" installation of Breckenridge, which I find frustrating, because I'd gladly take a road trip if it were installed in some retail store or restaurant somewhere where I could see it in person.

Anyway, long story short, to ease my fears ahead of my flooring selection deadline, I bought a full box of Breckenridge (it was around $100) through "California Flooring and Design" on Miramar Rd in San Diego (just a typical flooring store). It only took about 3 days to get the box. While having about 10 pieces is not as ideal as seeing a real-world install job, that box of flooring, combined with the positive reviews and good-looking photos here of other colors of the same product, have eased my mind about going with Pro-Tek Breckenridge.

I hope that helps. I would post photos but my job won't be done until June 2021.

You can call diamond w flooring and they should be able to get you a sample! They will also give you a list of suppliers in your area! i Feel your pain! I can’t find sugarloaf anywhere online!

We are also looking at this Diamond W CoreTek flooring. We like the dark warm tone of their Cask color... However, not really sure we want to use LVP because we would be using through our living areas and we want it to look real... Also wonder about the 12mil wear layer vs 20mil LVPs... Would love feedback

My floor, Breckenridge color, will be installed in the next 4-6 weeks. I will share photos of it when I’m done. Just like you, my #1 concern is I hope it looks real enough. My first impression has been positive: a few pieces have been laid loosely on the stairs, and I love how the Breckenridge color is very earthy and matches exactly the chaparral on the brown hills here in San Diego. I also am making sure they don’t make any silly installation mistakes, resulting in a plank pattern the eye can see once installed. As of right now, I am very hopeful. I have no opinion on wear layer.

They have finished my stairs only, in Diamond W Coretek flooring, Breckenridge color. As of right now, I am very pleased. I personally think it looks terrific. Does it look "fake" to me? No, it doesn't. Taste is such a personal thing, though, that I suppose others might think it looks "fake" versus a real floor. I've seen real floors that I thought looked "fake." So, personal taste...For me, where I plan to have a large dog and possibly an in-law unit renter, I will rest easy at night knowing I don't have a real wood floor. So far, so good. I truly hope I am as happy one month from now when they're finished as I am right now. I have not had a chance to talk with the installer yet, so I can't tell you if things are going smoothly or if the product presented any specific challenges. (Sorry, I can't answer any wear layer questions, I am not knowledgeable in that area). Now the challenge will be to pick the right grey or beige for the walls...

This will be my final update. My Diamond W Coretek "Breckenridge" has been installed into my new home. I have not yet painted the walls or moved in, but I feel I can make a judgement on the floor. I am VERY happy with how it looks. It has a matte look to it (not glossy), which I like. With many fake floors, if the sunlight's glare shines on the floor, the glare often highlights fake-looking indentations that manufacturers put into the planks to make them look rustic. I hate that, and I am happy to report that when you look at these planks in the sun's glare, what I see is simply a grain pattern (no weird divots or anything like that) that I feel actually looks pretty real! While there are a lot of "knots," I really like how it looks and I do not feel that there are too many knots.

This install job is not glued to the foundation (downstairs) or glued/screwed to the subfloor (upstairs). It is floating. Yet, when I walk on it, it feels very solid (as if it were glued down). There is a "quarter round" (or something like that, I forget the name), along the bottom of the normal baseboard. This extra baseboard piece is attached to the wall yet is not attached to the flooring. The flooring is then NOT installed all the way to the wall, but about 1/2" short of the wall. This extra baseboard piece covers this gap between the flooring's edge and the wall, and the gap allows the flooring to expand and contract without buckling or bubbling up. (Note that this extra piece has not yet been installed in the two photos shown below). As of now, without having lived on it yet, I couldn't be happier.

My flooring guy turns out to be great, and he said he is a fan of this particular Diamond W product. He really had nothing negative to say about it. His only advice is that the floor can temporarily "buckle" or "bubble" in areas, most likely facing east or west, where you have a patio door with no overhang where the floor is exposed to daily periods of very hot direct sunlight. So, in those fairly rare cases, he recommends a window covering to diffuse the light/heat.

On a side note, shame on Diamond W for having such a horrible website. I mean, seriously, shame on you. You give your customers one terrible photo of this product/color, and you expect us to be able to make a quality assessment? And, in your photo, you actually have a very poor install job shown with planks that are not properly staggered? There are some industries that simply need to experience a revolution of efficiency, and the flooring industry is one of them. Shaking my head...

A final note: To anyone seriously considering this product, I highly recommend you simply buy an entire box of the stuff in the color you prefer for around $75 and lay it out yourself. I don't think any quality judgements can be made with just a sample from a flooring store. I was able to get a box delivered to me in less than one week.
