Help me with my living room

Hello!
I recently purchased a split level home and I'm clueless when it comes to design and decor. The two chairs were a Craig's list score and I am having them reupholstered. Any idea on fabric choice? I want something classic I won't get sick of easily. Any advice would be appreciated! I am open to anything!

I think you could add a couple big gold candles into your glass cylinder vases.

I am thinking the 2nd pillow might be to pink? Other one looks slightly lighter more blush and the silver pillow will add enough shimmer.

Love the pink & silver to mix.

I love animal print. Can I bring in an animal print pillow? Would either of these prints work with my color palette? I like the third pillow for Greek key pattern.

Can someone settle it for me if the sofa is white, or another light neutral?

Can't wait to see the screen. Long time in coming. I'm sure if you love, it looks great!

The fire screen is heavy and solid. It’s not as flimsy as some of the prior ones I’ve tried from homegoods. My dream is still the one Flo posted earlier but for 1/5 the price, this isn’t bad. There are these plastic crystals on it tho that are ugly so I am going to take them off.
The sheers are hung. I like it. It looks and feels good.
I bought an etagere on Craig’s. She listed it as Maison Jansen but not sure it’s authentic as it’s not marked but for $100, it’s solid and heavy. It was also all rusted! But did you know that chrome can be rescued with aluminum foil? Erich helped me polish it and I can’t believe the difference after polishing it with aluminum foil!

I still have my Christmas tree up because I am having my cousins over Saturday.
Let me know what you guys think about my new/old etagere!

That is amazing. Quite a trick. Love the sheers on that window. So much better. Screen is ok if you like it. But a bit to feminine for me taste. However for now, it seems ok. I love the etagere in that spot. Works perfectly. Hope your family gathering is fun and i am sure it will be wonderful!

I think your screen looks very nice. What exactly do you do with the foil? Just rub the crome with it or something more? Etagere looks great.

You have to wash off the dirt and grime w soap and water, then you take a big piece of aluminum foil wet it then rub the area that is rusted. It works well when the metal underneath chrome is still in good condition. If it’s really bad, I don’t think it will work

Happy New Year, MJ. WOW the sheer curtains really make a difference in how beautiful and pulled together the room looks. Good job on hanging them and getting the fullness just right. I’m ok with the screen but I think it’s a tad small but certainly fine for now. Love the etegere and isn’t nice how Erich is able to work his magic. A keeper for sure (Erich that is). Have fun this weekend.

Happy New Year Seajay! You have always been after me about those window treatments and we finally fixed it. Starting 2019 on the right foot!

I love it, beautiful. What are u putting on shelving? Love the sheers.

I don't know what I should put on shelving yet. I need a template so that I can look for stuff. books? Vases? Something cool and pretty!

Funny those ginger jars never made it to my house. I ended up canceling the order because it has been over a month! Oh well.. I guess they are not meant for me.

Start minimal..with larger items....if using any books for stacking stick with All off white paper covered...they look great that way...you can take old books and cover hem yourself...I would mix your metal objects silver and gold.....no black you have those big black floor lamps that are more masculine so I would not add anymre black..

This visual will help with position and proportion of items...

Can those black floor lamps flank the window instead..just a after thought.

That’s a shame about ginger jars not showing up. They would have looked great on shelves.

Just pulled together some ideas on objects for your etagere...

Some items for etegere only in your colors.

Well I recommend first of all organizing the room. Then decide on a color code. Purchase your furniture. Then work on decorations :)

And try less dull colors and go for abstract artwork to hang on walls

    Hi!
Since I went MIA, I got married and sold my house in DC to move in with my husband. Offer accepted was almost 60k over listing prices thanks to Houzz friends and my designer Flo Mangan who helped me turn my ugly duckling split level into beautifully designed space! My style evolved and now I am loving traditional transitional style! Hope you enjoy the photos.

    Hi Seajay! ☺️

OMG. MJ, YOU ARE GORGEOUS. And your Erick is some serious eye candy. I was beyond happy to see your post. I was thinking about you recently and wondered if he had put a ring on it 😉! Receiving a follow up post like this makes it all worthwhile. Even though we are just virtual friends, I always had a soft spot in my heart. And the house looked so put together and elegant. No wonder it sold over listing. I love everything you did after going MIA. It’s just great hearing from you.

    ......
I want to extend my hearty congratulations and best wishes always to you and Erick on your marriage. My wish is for a long and happy life together while you both create meaningful and fun memories. 😘
