First ripe tomato

Planted in ground the third week of May. Today had a ripe SunSugar cherry tomato. Didn't make it to the house. Delicious!

Jealous! I've got several weeks to go! Congrats!

That's great! We harvested our first ripe tomatoes this past weekend. Jaune Flamme was the earliest this year followed by Sun Gold, Galinas and Veni Vidi Vici. Our first beefsteak was Chyornyi Tarasenko. Our plants are loaded. With the hot temperatures forecasted for this week, we're expecting a huge harvest this weekend.

My SS 100 and Black Cherry have been trickling in for a couple weeks and are just now starting to ripen in abundance and will need to be picked every 2 days going forward.

Last Friday I picked my first Black tomato, Sunday Big Beef, and last night my first Orange Jazz which I think is my biggest tomato ever at 27.5 oz.

Here is a picture of the Blacks and Big Beefs that have been picked so far. They have ripened a bit more since the picture. First BLTs of the season are on the menu for Wednesday dinner!!!!

Those tomatoes look great. BLTs sound delicious. It will be a while yet before my full sized tomatoes are ready. Glad you can enjoy them now. Saw another Sun Sugar turning color so expect they will need picking regularly soon. Sweet Million tomatoes are still green. Will buy some other varieties when the farmers market starts having ripe heirloom tomatoes.

    Thanks, gorbelly.

KBAV, I am curious what varieties you are growing. I also have a Cherokee Carbon, a Brandy Boy, a Sweet Million and a late planted Black Krim that I picked up at the Plymouth Plant Swap. Cut back on the number of varieties this year. Started with two but ended up with these five.

Great news, shell. Will be thinking of you picking and eating good tomatoes this weekend. Temps will be in the 90s here. Hot for us but good for ripening tomatoes.

Took a quick tour this AM in the garden, dozens of Big Beef are ready to turn, Jaune Flamme keeps cranking; more Sungolds are turning, Sunrise Bumblebees are starting to color up as well. Waiting on about 30 other varieties to start showing some color. In the mean time, the zucchinis, yellow squash, cucumbers, eggplants, blackberries and various peppers are keeping me busy.

MNWSGAL, I am growing a few tomatoes I thought would work in containers. I've got Bush Early Girl, Punch Cherry Hybrid, Tumbling Tom Yellow and Homeslice. Because I waited to plant first week of June, the nursery had only tomatoes left that were flowering and outgrowing their pots. So, I bought a wee little Brandy Boy because it was small and looked healthy. Ha ha. Didn't realize how big a beast it would become in the container! Hoping they all do well. I'm expecting two more weeks before my first batch ripens! Enjoy your bounty! I will be braver and start earlier next year!

We're in full scale production now. Picking Sungolds, Galinas, Jaune Flamme, Sunrise Bumblebee, Veni Vidi Vici, Chyornyi Tarasenko, Banded Amazon and Brandy Boy. The other 27 varieties we're growing are loaded with greenies.
