I recently remodeled a kitchen and chose the Kohler Whitehaven undermount sink - the full depth one. This is a cast iron sink installed with quartz countertops. The installer followed the installation instructions exactly. However, he elected not to install some optional support pieces. They are two vertical wood pieces on either side of the sink (a total of four extra support pieces). Details are on p. 4 of the installation manual link below. All the required support structure instructions were followed.

This is a vacation rental property so the sink is likely not heavily used. Nonetheless I have started to worry about the lack of these supports. The sink is so big and heavy that the support structure for it just seems inadequate.

My questions to the pros are: (1) Do you see this as a concern?, and (2) Can the supports be added now without damaging the cabinetry? Thanks!
