If you want to make something similar to the picture, you can measure the appliqué patterns and figure out the approx size for the star/basket blocks. The star is a traditional eight-point star block. The basket is a minor variation. You can find several free patters for this block. However the traditional block has Y seams and may be challenging to piece. Instead, try the star flower block that has a similar look. http://www.quilterscache.com/S/StarflowerBlock.html. It has half sq triangles but very simple.

Here's what I'd do to get something similar to the pic but a lot simpler: Make star flowers to go around the center. Pick another star block for the center - You will have a lot of white space since you may be short of fabric. Do a simple border around the starflower blocks. The fourpatch borders are too much work. Use the floral fabric for a wide border as in the pic. Or you can stretch yourself and do fusible appliqué for the center. There are a number of tutorials and videos for it online.

But if you want to make something totally different, the sky's the limit!

Here's a suggestion, all 6" HST . You can arrange them any way you want. Super easy!

Could you lay the fabric out and take a picture? The print size, etc, might help.

Check out the Turning Twenty quilts. There are several versions. They use 20 fat quarters and a print, and the blocks are all made up of squares and rectangles.

Thanks, Lois. That two-step is really cute. I sent some old Kenmore sewing machine parts to a lady and she gifted me with a beautiful Jelly Roll that she had been saving. That's what I'm going to do with it.

Warm wishes with this fabric would take some planning. It's really cute, too.

LittleHelen, I finished a quartered stripes quilt top a couple of months ago. By the time I finished, I hated it so much I'm not even going to get it quilted. I may never use a triangle again. They would work well for this varied fabric, though. Thanks.

You could use the pattern for "turning 21". It's really easy. It uses 21 fat quarters but you could either use what you have for a smaller version or add fat wuarters to what you have to make a full sized quilt.
