I just tiled my backsplash and it took me forever too decide on the correct shade of white! My contractor kept insisting that I needed pure white to pick up the white in the granite. ( canyon dawn). I really was preferring an off white which, like your situation, is very close in color to the cabinets. Finally decided to use Imperial Bianco matte from The Tile Store. It's just creamy enough to not look bathroom white, but not yellow at all. I just love it. I think it looks milky white. Just seemed to blend better with the overall feel of the house. Also, don't look at the two next to each other too much. Comparing the two side by side really over emphasizes their contrast. That said, I'm a fan off the slightly creamy tone if it seems to better harmonize with the rest of the rooms around it.

Isn't it crazy how hard it is to pick out a white?! I have so many samples at home now from different places. And it isn't enough to have one- I have to have three of each to make an impact! I like matching the white sink. Otherwise it looks like the sink is the only white. It will make the white sink fit in better in the overall look.

White tile might work, but you can also pick the lightest color in your countertop for your backsplash. Is there white in it or is it cream?

There is no white in the counter. I found Jeffrey Court Crisp Linen which is a creamy white- not as stark as Jeffrey Court Artic White. I like that one. We are thinking of having one row of 12 inch subway tiles and one row of 6 inch subways. What do you think? My next problem is - what color paint. I have two big walls that make the eating corner. My house is yellows, springy green and red. Think cottage garden. Because of this I don't want a beige kitchen. I need a warm beige/cream. I am thinking of it being farmhouse/cottage. Lot of green plants and white/cream ceramics? I need help! Thank you! (sorry for sideway picture-couldn't rotate)

I like your tile choice! Take a look at Ivory Palace (paint) by Behr. It's a wonderful cream color.
