Can you help fix this ugly exterior?

I've inherited this fixer upper from my grandfather. It's an ugly house that basically needs to be gutted, but it sits on an amazing piece of land that I love. Unfortunately the house it situated "sideways" with this being the view when you come up the long driveway.
Tree is being removed and electric line and meter being moved also to clean up the look. New windows too.
I'm going for a modern farmhouse look and was thinking of doing a 7" white siding on the whole thing, but my siding guy thinks that will look awful, basically a big white box. He suggests doing that on the top half only, then just painting the stucco white on the bottom half. I'm not sure I like that idea. My second idea is to do a board and batten white siding on top half and then stucco on bottom.

What do you think? What would you do?

I like the modern farmhouse look for your house with the white board and batten done similar to the house in attached pic (especially with a bit of stone at the bottom and a metal roof) would look very nice!

It would be best to have the top and bottom all one color. Bright and colorful landscaping is needed. As well as a defined path to the front door.

What if you locate the front entrance to where the garden window is currently. (I read gut job....)

First comes the "new" interior, no sense in replacing windows if your new space requires them to be moved or enlarged. Check with your local electrical supplier - there may be some rebates on new hot water & furnace equipment. I mention this because the new units don't require a "chimney" for venting. I've rehabbed several properties such as yours. Go slowly, upgrade the plumbing and electrical. The exterior comes last. "I bought it because of the property" was my motto.

Board and batten for the house. Why not create a covered walkway that leads everyone to the front door and provides some interest?

Paint it the same colour all the way and do white trims, plant some shrubs and flowers and enjoy the homestead .

I agree with board and batten on the entire house. If you do 7" horizontal, I would still do the whole house. You can always paint the window trim in a contrasting color.
