What is the species of tree on the right corner and how old is it?

I believe it is a magnolia. Here is a slightly better photo. I would like to keep it.

Years ago it was determined that trees look best when trimmed to eight feet above ground. Your magnolia seems lower to me. Since it is close to the house I might trim it up even higher.

I feel like the end shrub is crowding the entrance area so I would remove it and plant a low growing perennial/groundcover type plant.

Your house is actually quite nice and I wonder why you think it needs a refresh. Did you just buy it?

I would consider moving it away from the house before it gets too large. A full grown magnolia can reach 60-80' and 40' across. At some point, it's going to start giving you issues with your gutters and shingles, as well as possible foundation issues.
