You've got to test every stone to see if it's really what the fabricator/stone supplier says it is. The stoners know that everyone knows how badly marble performs in kitchens, so instead of disappointing a customer in love, they just call it "quartzite" and make the sale. Their check will have cleared by the time the etches show.

We have Taj Mahal, over 2 years. It is as pretty and pristine as the day it was installed and it gets plenty of abuse.

Agree with Joseph. We experienced just what he said - on the lot they told us the 1st stone we liked was quartzite. I tested it with the usual tools and it failed the test with every one. It turned out best for us, otherwise, we wouldn't have found the Taj Mahal.
