Another Sheet Thread...Threshold

As I said awhile back I was going to start using fitted sheets on the boys beds. I don't have many fitted but I do have 4 Threshold (Target) percale fitted. I've been using these 4 for several months now and prior to that only a handfull of times although they must be 2 years old, but still rarely used until recently. All 4 are tearing away and around the elastic corners, and no there's plenty of room so I'm not pulling or stretching their actually a tad loose. I have had to return 2 sets of Thresholds after only a few washes a few years ago because the top sheet split down the center. Ya ya I know these are a very cheap set of percales but they should last more than a few months. Husband says I've washed them to death. I suppose I'm just going to darn them the best I can becsuse we KNOW I'm no sew'er. I will continue using them until all life in them is gone than I'll go back to using a flat sheet. I thought about searching the thrift stores for twin fitted but they would need a boil wash and I doubt the elastic would hold up. Anyway anyone else having issues with the Threshold? I know a few o f you have them. Mine were the ones made in India..haha.

I have several varieties of Target's sheets and have had no issues with them. I've been really happy with the quality and how they've held up.

    @Pinky

I'm with you. My experience with threshold sheets was significant wear after six months. The only thing l could identify as wear points was bad elastic and long finger/toenails that might have cut fibers . I definitely found wear points in foot of the bed sheet ends. I chose not to try to to mend or patch the bottom sheets due to sensitivities of people using them. Yes, they said they would feel the patch on the underside of the sheet. Yeah right was my response.

If you want to patch on the wrong side of the sheet with no sewing, consider the iron type available commercially. Or use iron two sided adhesives where you cut your patch, apply one side of the adhesive to the wrong side of the patch, remove the backing and iron the patch to the underside of the sheet. It should be completely washable. I would zig zag around the patch to be sure, but that's not necessary.

Elastic is harder. The way the threshold sheets are made, you would have to remove the old elastic and reapply. Too much work. You could try to patch the wear points, but I don't think that would hold.

I have other sheets I bought at the same time at target that are not ready for the paint dropcloth basket. Won't be buying more of the threshold sheets.

You should expect to wash children's sheets often and in hot water. It's not you, it's target.

50's fitted sheets had bias tape finishing the edges. Not as stretchy as elastic and only fit the standard depth mattress of the day, but didn't wear out long before the top sheets. I believe the reason they changed to eastic was the change in the sizes of mattresses ' depth. One size no longer fit all.

Good luck stretching the life of the sheets.

I would watch for LLBean or Company Store sheet sale and grab a couple of the bottom fitted sheets friedajune likes. Might be a workaround. My sister used Company Store for her sheets and towels and they are nice quality.

Poppy thank you for that advice. On second thought I may just use these for the boys until total death occurs. Lol.

I just sent my nephew some Threshold sheet sets for his college dorm room that he is moving to in about a week. I figured not to spend a lot of money on a college teen's sheets, and those Threshold sheets are amazingly inexpensive. But with this thread, I wonder if I shouldn't have spent a little more for him. I'll ask him in a couple of months about the sheets, and send him something else if need be.

These several recent threads about low TC sheets sent me rummaging through my linen closet. I also found percale sheets from The Vermont Country Store in addition to LLBean. The Vermont Country Store sheets are several years old, and certainly wrinkled, but show no wear. They actually feel slightly heavier than the LLBean, which may be a good or bad thing depending on what you like. So I would add them to the list of less expensive (compared to the Sferra/Frette/Au Lit Fine) but pretty nice quality if you are looking for the crisp sheet style.

So sorry Mama, I have 4-5 sets of Threshold Performance Made in India 100% cotton sheet sets, and they still are holding up very well. I change sheets weekly and I wash them at 115-120F.

My BIG complaint is that Target has cancelled CA King Threshold sheets!!! First it was in store, and now online! They are my favourite sheets, and now no more!!

Larsi's, we also use a CalKing, and it is hard to find good sheets. And you have to watch what you purchase, because in a set, most of the time they include a regular king top sheet and a true CalKing only for the fitted sheet. Why? Why? They are not the same! So tired of the dh's feet sticking out of short sheets that flop too far over the sides of the bed.

MamaP, I just ordered a new Wamasutta fitted CK sheet from Bed, Bath & Beyond. Hadn't bought that brand in years but it said "made from US cotton." Though it was sewn in Pakistan, it feels great so far, and has super-wide elastic all the way around. They call it "boxer style" elastic, and it does indeed look like the wide bands around men's boxers. You might find it would hold up for you?

Ha...the ones made in India a few years ago are the BEST. Target now has them being produced in Pakistan. It is just not the same quality. I have tried to find the older ones made in India on Ebay etc, and I can't find any. I won't buy Threshold sheets from Target anymore because they are nothing special anymore.
