No way would I be paying in full. A deposit of some kind. I really don't think a reputable company would be asking for it all up front. I would look for another supplier if possible.

In general when one is ordering from HD(not saying that you are ordering from them) you have to pay in full, so this does not sound unusual.

Your buying from Home Depot?

I googled kraftmaid and their reputation is not that good - see above.

If you are thinking of ordering from HD, check out some "Custom Kitchen" companies in your area, they probably will cost less and really be "custom".

There are sooooooo many factors to consider when reading reviews. I have no stock or vested interest in Kraftmaid - it's simply my opinion based on my experience. That said, I would upgrade to an all plywood cabinet. Worth the 10% or so extra. More people are frustrated about buying through Lowes or Home Depot because of the million step process you have to go through just to buy cabinets.

I agree that all plywood boxes for the base cabinets are worth the upcharge. That said, I bought mine through HD (Thomasville cabinets). I have drawers in all my base cabinets, no uppers. One tall unit for my oven / micro. It's a large galley kitchen, so the design and ordering was easy and fast (about an hour). Full payment was required at time of order. And if the husband or wife is a US Veteran you get a 10% discount, just bring your dd214.

Thanks, all! This is the first time I'm paid in full before receiving a product. The cabinet company provided a receipt when I gave the deposit, so everything seems to be on the up and up. We are not going through Home Depot, mainly because it seems way to bureaucratic.

As for the cabinets themselves, we're going with solid plywood, made in America. Kraftmaid. Not everyone's cup of tea, I know, but they have nice features and fit our budget.

Thanks for the feedback!
