What is Moonlighting?

This type of outdoor illumination is mounted high up in trees. It casts attractive patterns down through the lower branches and leaves of the tree, creating dappled light on the ground surface, similar to the natural light of a full-moon on a clear night. Large lawn areas, ponds and patios benefit from this type of illumination.

It makes sense to do moonlighting if the moonlight is going to be visible from a frequently used walkway, patio, or from inside the house. Trees that make good candidates for moonlighting are large shade trees (at least 6" caliper), with a single, central leader.
