Question about cucumbers

I know that my cucumber growth slows down usually because there is a big one hiding somewhere. The plants seem to know when they've got enough seeds to grow new cucumbers in the future. Mine has slowed down, even though I have been sure that there are no huge ones hiding. But.....I have several of those really small bulbous kinds with a little tail that seemed to have had a problem with pollination and wasn't picking those. Then I thought......they probably contribute to the slow down in production too....even though they grew funkily. So I should always pick those too. Am I over-thinking this or might I be correct?

Thanks!
