Some of the leading brands are Pella and Anderson. However, we've use a local contractor/business to install new windows that are neither. Our windows are made by small companies and we are very happy with the brands the installer recommends and stands by. Have to say that the Pella windows cost twice as much. Also, we installed vinyl to replace wood. They will last another lifetime.

I think the first step is to talk to a qualified rep about the benefits of wood, vinyl, aluminum clad, or pvc to see which is best for your home/environment. Most people only post reviews when they've had problems, so a make sure the company you choose has good customer service support. If you are in the New England area, please check us out.

I would post this in thewindow forum section of Garden Web. Post the area of the counrty you are building in and if possible an elevation of your home.

When I purchased windows, I selected one that was manufactured locally. In my case that's Milgard. I've had them two years and am very happy with the look, efficiency, ease of cleaning and the company's warranty. I received 4 bids from various installers, three of them use this brand and the bids varied in price, so do your due diligence.
