OBF September- Round Robin with a twist

September will be an old fashion Round Robin - with a twist.

We will be using an USPS Large Flat Rate box at 17.05 so that will be the main cost.

I will start the box with 50+ commercial seed packs and about the same in gathered seeds. The twist will be including gifts in the box as well.

When the Robin lands at your house, you have 3 days to gather your choices. Up to 10 commercial, unlimited gathered, and 1 gift. ( I will start the box with 3 gifts) You will then need to replenish the box with your stash. .. commercial packs for commercial, gift for gift, etc.

Gifts must be small in size and can include handmade. Nothing liquid or handmade food.

Sign ups until Sept 7th.

Must message me your address when you sign up so I can get all address labels made to include in box.

Must post Picture of your chosen bounty--

Must post Tracking #s when you resend.

Simplicity is my goal this month.

I will post a Bingo game...

And I love PICTURES, so let's take this month so show off our gardens, flowers, projects, what worked this year, what didn't.

Hope you join!

*Our Blooming Friends Swap Group [0BF] was created to have a reliable, fair and safe haven to swap and trade between group members. If you care to join us, we would love to have you.

it to your partner, for any reason. Also you'll be required to replace any item that arrives broken/damaged.

Hi, everyone! I have the October Swap for the group and plan to make it just a card swap so hopefully there won't be too much going on and people can sign up. I'll post the October swap really soon, but I thought I would mention that it will be super simple.

(I'm so glad the group is doing a true round robin and want to allow time for it to finish flying. September has been very busy here or else I definitely would have signed up for it. I love seeing the pictures and it looks like a wonderful swap.)

Laura, you were so close to where I live, I could have waved at that distance. LOL One summer when I was in school I worked at Ft. Jackson. I think we got off work at 4:30 p.m. and nearly every day at that time there was a horrible thunder storm. Made it interesting to try to dash to the car and drive home. Amazing coincidence that you were there.

I just found the goodie box out on the porch! I'm about to crack it open and dig in. I'll post again when I've made my selection. :)

That was fast! No delays or anything! Hope you enjoy!

Wow! That was such a super box! Laura, thank you for the personalized
gift pack. I love the seeds you selected for me, as well as the
chocolate. Brooke, thank you so much for the essential oils and the
    stickers.

I ended up choosing gift 3, which contained
chocolate!!!, lemonade mix, seed baggies, hand sanitizer and a notebook.
Thanks to whoever put that one together. I couldn't resist the
chocolate and I don't have any bags that size, so they will come in real
    handy!

And seeds... OMG, so many good seeds! Thank you Laura, for
your seeds from around the world, and thanks to everyone else who has
contributed so far. I think I ended up with contributions from pretty
much everyone who has had the box so far!

And finally, here's my pic of all the amazingness....

Haven't been able to upload a pic. I'm trying, but no luck. I'll have my hubby take a look at it when he gets up and see if I can get something uploaded.

I've been trying to upload pics all day with no luck,...I'm guessing the site is having issues, not me!

Kk. Guess I'll try to attach my pic tomorrow, since I'm still not having luck.

In the meantime, here's the tracking number for Emily's pack. I'll be dropping it off at the PO on Monday: 9405 8096 9993 7953 6437 74

    LRQ # 7

What is the most outrageous thing you've done for a plant?

I drove 12 hours for a heirloom eggplant whose seeds are held closely by a family down in Louisiana. Plans of propagation didn't succeed one year and I lost it. (More ways then one) The few people I shared with didn't save seeds. Soooo, come April, I'm heading back to Louisiana for more Plants. (They don't sell seeds, they don't ship plants--I begged on both counts!). That might be crossing the crazy plant lady line--I'm not sure!ha.

My craziest story is probably hitting the fruit tree sale jackpot one year at Wal-Mart. They were so cheap I bought 5 or 6 really tall fruit trees. My car is really small but I managed to cram them all in my back seat. A stranger came over to me and said " I never thought you would get the all in your car" Haha! What he didn't know was that I still had to pick up my boys from school on the way home. Needless to say it was a very tight fit!

Just confirming that I dropped the Round Robin off at the PO this morning.

I've tried a million times to get my picture to post and it looks like tonight is the night!
Here's my goodies that I got from the box! So much amazingness. It was fantastic.

Most outrageous thing I've done for a plant...

This wasn't just for one plant, but for my whole plant obsession. A few years ago, I got rid of the kitchen table and put a metal shelving rack in my kitchen, complete with grow lights, so that I could have room to start seeds, and store plants in the interim between getting them and planting them outdoors. To this day, I have no kitchen table, just crazy plant lady shelving.

I got tired of losing all my peaches to the birds that I made little bags for each one. It was the only way I was able to get them to mature enough to eat.

    Erica,

    Is that zucchini a F1?

Laura -- The coucourzelle from the picture? No, I don't believe it's F1. Here's a link from their site. Even though I can't read German, you can see that they do label their F1 seeds: Coucourzelle

THAT German "zucchini' which is what they pretty much call all squash, is the crazy squash I have growing 30 ft up my trees! Last year I grew it in my regular garden area thinking it was regular zucchini. It grew and grew- produced nothing, and grew into our lawn. My husband tore it out and threw it in our back area under the trees. Unknown to me, it must have survived back there and produced at least one baby and reseeded itself this year. Last Fall we had that hurricane Matthew that took down some huge trees in our back area -- the end result was that same area I claimed as a new garden since we now had sun there! I turned soil and planted okra, some tomatoes, but no squash. Then here comes this unknown to me squash looking vine.... and I swore I didn't plant it there! Mystery solved!

I don't know if it is for a plant. I plan trips to where the small owned garden centers are. Or start asking locals where the small private gardeners are that like to talk tomatoes. When we took a train to CA. then rented a car to drive from Teiqunia to Santa Anita racetrack. I would go to the hotel and find the local gardencenters. Then mail the plants back home to Ohio. Only one yellow iris is to show from the trip. I got reminded of my worst gardening mistake. 2 years ago my friend shared her spacecoaster lilies with me. I rushed home and potted up. But used the clay dirt Ohio has. By spring they had rotted from being to wet and could not grow from the terrible soil I used. I always have 40 lbs of bagged soil for potting now.

one of the last dahlias to bloom. I have 2 that haven't bloomed yet. I guess it is over for them.

Laura -- Omg! I'm so happy to know that. I was thinking that I'd love to grow whatever it was you grew, since it seemed to do so well for you in your trees. I will be attempting to grow it in my lemon tree next year. Super, super happy! Thank you so much for letting me know that this is one and the same. :)

Loving all these stories. I guess my most unusual story about plants that has happened to me is when my aunt died several years ago she was a very avid gardener and had a greenhouse about the size of mine which is about I think 10x20 anyways her husband a year after ended up with a heart attack, his daughter was telling me he was over doing it trying to take care of those plants and all the beautiful plants, trees, shrubs in and around the place. I took my Hubbys race trailer and went that weekend while he was still in hospital and family showed up to help. My trailer and pickup was loaded and packed to the top. We dug up rose bushes, shrubs, trees.. Lots she had still in buckets. The little town they lived in hated to see it go as people often came to visit him and look at the plants. A photographer often requested to use their backyard for props in photos. The daughter could have sold it and made a lot of money. But hear is what she told me. This was my mothers most prized possessions and to me that is priceless! I want all this to go to you, you were her niece and you were born on her birthday..so that makes today extra special I know you will cherish all this just like she did. And you can believe I have. Sorry this is so long. I'll have to find those pictures of that day and share them. My uncle did end up passing away this year but my aunt has been gone now 7 yrs. he died from a brain tumor. . I have doubled my greenhouse in size and a lot of what plants I give or seeds is from all this. Thanks for reading. I was just checking in to see where the robin was...

    Have a beautiful day everyone!

Oh, I got Bingo too but Erica beat me to it. Congratulations, Erica!

I dropped off the package at the post office this morning. I promise that I did use the flat rate priority mail but the postal person told me that the expected delivery date is Tuesday! She was a bit taken aback herself but thought it may have to do with the destination. I guess they are building in a cushion for Texas. She said it is possible it may arrive sooner.
