Is it just "wall texture", or is it popcorn? I'd not want popcorn on the walls. Texture is definitely regionally common or even expected.

Agree with Jan, if it is really popcorn on the walls you are going to find a mess underneath. The less texture on a wall the better the plaster work needs to be, so the more expensive it is.

anyway, if you are in the northeast, i'd say remove it, we're a smooth wall and ceiling zone of the country.

I agree this is just a way to cover up poor workmanship in mudding and taping.Get rid of it now to help sell.

I really doubt there is popcorn on the walls but instead a texture like "spanish lace" or whatever name is common in your area. Is it common to have textured walls where you live? If it is, it will probably be over looked by a prospective buyer. Sometimes, people are very quick and easy to spend other's money but only you and your realtor can properly evaluate its worth.
