Ideas on drape colors?

I have decided on a painting finally and have these mint blue pillows to go with it so far. Trying to decide if I should add in teal pillows and also trying to decide what color drapes would look best? The sofa is a dark gray and walls are a neutral beige. The painting has teal with specs of mint blue, teal, and orange. I was thinking of doing either mint blue or teal for the drapes but not sure if that will be too much blue? Thanks in advance!

Agree with HIWE I think the neutrals pair well with your other choices.

    White blackout drapes

Hobby Lobby has really nice Greek key trim for drapes I think in gray and tan..you could add it to leading edge of the panels for a nice finished look.

Ohh perfect! Thanks for the pics/links. If I end up going with ivory/whites for the pillows and drapes, do you think I will need a rug? The room is carpet so I didn't think it would be necessary but the gray ottoman and gray sofa seem kind of dark. I am hoping once I replace the pillows it will lighten things up.

I think it we be lovely..no need for a rug..

HIWE posted some nice curtains. I'm not seeing a pattern... Just my opinion.

I generally prefer solid color curtains, so I'll keep my eye out for a style like that in an ivory color.

Here's a pic of the window and other side of the room, for those of you who asked or are curious. The thing on the floor is a foam topper. It's super soft and I had it in there covered over with a blanket as we needed more seating one night. I am thinking about getting a bean bag or something for the corner. Or perhaps cover it with a furry throw will create that same look and feel. Oh and please disregard the chords, we will be getting a media console there.. the fish tank we will possibly get rid of.. and the items in the tray are not there anymore.

Wow. You weren't kidding when you said this room is for mostly watching tv/movies;) That is a huge screen! My husband would be jealous...

We got so lucky bc the Sellers decided to leave it at the house for us! It was a great surprise.

You may also want to think about getting a room darkening shade installed and just do stationary drapes on each side...it could be installed in that entire window niche and when lowered would block out all the light..than the drapes would be hung on the wall area around the window niche...just guessed on your window size..to give a estimate for you...and you can choose from many colors

I think bean bags would be a great way to add seating...we have two in our media room and my adult kids find them very comfortable.

If my curtains are lighter, should I go with a bean bag that is similar in color to the sofa?

Thanks for the info on the shades. Luckily, the sunlight shines in this room in the morning while we generally aren't home. So if I can find darkening curtains it may sufficient.

Sure just thought it is easier to lower a shade than pulling drapes open and closed if you just do drapes hang them with rings so they open and close easily..or do grommets but they are not my favorite look for your space..You could do a neutral tone I think it will be difficult to match the sofa color..they have some faux fur bean bags....might be fun!

I'll definitely look into it cause it would be easier. a faux fur in ivory would be really pretty. I could throw one of the gray or mint pillows on it if it works. Any recommendations on where to look?

Look at Urban outfitters..depending on the amount of space you have this one is pretty big..but very comfy

this is what I have bit in black canvas..they are very comfortable and are not as wide as the average round bean bag..we love them!

Those are cute. Amazon seems to have quite a few options too so I'll have to measure and see what will fit best. Thanks!!

    Nala

Do you have another living space or is this the only one by the looks of this new construction I would guess it should

I do have a family room downstairs which I'm making more elegant looking and also have a living room which is still empty haha. This bonus room upstairs w the projector and screen is basically the more comfortable/casual family room.

got it a movie room just for family.

Thanks I'll see what my husband thinks of these ones. I think he doesn't mind the tree one we have but he wasn't too excited
With the idea of mint blue pillows and curtains haha.

I got these pillows yesterday. Any thoughts?

    Very pretty.

    Love them!!

HIWE do you think I should leave the blue pillow or remove it? I have two. also, what color bean bag do you think? And now that you see this do you think white, ivory or soft beige for the curtains? Thank you!

I would remove the blue pillow and just keep all whites and neutrals..that looks beautiful!!

the Birch trees are enhanced with the neutral pillows...if you have a mix of all neutrals than any one of them can be your drape color...easy for shopping just find the neutral drapes you love and fit in your budget:) anything from white to Beige!

Thanks! I am glad I was able to find nice pillows so quickly. Do you think that the bean bag would be better in a gray color or a light color such as ivory or beige would be better? I am thinking it just shouldn't be the same as the curtains bc then it may all blend together ? For example not a white curtain with a white bean bag?

Well you can do light beige drapes and white bean bag or white drapes with Beige bean bag but would not do gray...I really like the pillows!

There is also a pretty faux fur ivory 41" at PB Teen

I'll send a pic once I get the painting up .. hopefully today

Sorry for the delay guys! I have the curtains and painting up. Trying to decide on a bean bag or just a faux fur saucer type
Chair. The bean bag will take quite a bit of space if I get the 5 ft one. Also, do you think a darker wood color or lighter would be better as a media console under the screen?
    Example of colors below.

Like the blonde wood color media cabinet....I think both if the seating choices will take up to much space:(

The Big Joe Lux Milano fur chair is your best option..they really are comfy even for adults and don't take up so much space...

Some inspiration. Not sure about teal curtains, I like the grey curtains or ones deeper than your wall colour
  • 9 years ago
I was hoping for one that would be a bit bigger bc I think you're right about it being too big, unfortunately.. here's how the room looks for now. It looks like it didn't send last time for some reason. I'll check out the one you suggested again for the bean bag chair. Thanks!
My last msg was supposed to say I was hoping I could fit a bigger bean bag, but I think you may be right.

I thought you needed room darkening drapes? Are you going to get shades instead?

dont want to discourage you but your drapes should be hung up higher and outside of the niche...you can do a rod across the top just below the ceiling and let it go past outside of niches about 8-10" than hang panels on each side wall area just to frame the window area.....like this

Aw man. I kind of had a feeling but then I thought it would make the room feel smaller if the curtains were on the outside. Thanks for letting me know. I will need to search for longer curtains.

Do you have HomeGoods? They offer panels in long sizes now..they have an entire isle full of them....worth a look see! What is the height of your ceilings? I will see what I can find..you need a bit more substantial drapery rod too!

Yes! And I love homegoods! Yes the seller left that rod at the house and I don't like it myself.. are you thinking something with nicer ends
Or just something thicker? I will need to measure the height for the curtains but I'm thinking at least 96 since the ones I hung were 84 ..
Picked up some new curtains at home goods today and the length is 96, so it should look pretty. The fabric is even nicer and it's also room darkening.

By any chance do they have back tabs?

    I Don't think so ..
Also, the fish tank will probably block the curtains a bit but I guess it'll be fine.

Is their a wall on the other side of the room for the aquarium?

No this is the only spot it really works.. and it's actually very very heavy so we can't move it

Is their a little bit of space between the tank and the wall...to slip drape beside it? How much wall is from edge of niche to front of tank? You may only be able to put rod out to that point....

I'm not sure but the tank isn't touching the wall so I can definitely slide the curtains back there.

Ok Good Luck..keep me posted!.....you may want to consider hanging the drapes with rings that match your rod...you can buy the ring with a pinch clip that just clips onto top of drape..super easy and really adds a classic touch..and if you get two more panels so they cover the entire window.....you could slide them open and closed to darken the room...and will look nice and full on each side when open.....just something to think about.

Sorry this took so long. I kept checking hg for rods that were long enough and in the right color but had no luck. I ordered one on amazon and they sent the wrong color. I finally just got one at bed bath and beyond. I hung the rod up high and added this side table to the room. Also, the foam thing is still there on the floor against the window but hoping to get something more like w bean bag or a side chair. I will also need to add a standing lamp or something in that corner where there is some some between the sofa and the wall.

    Is that satin brocade linen

I am not sure. I’d have to check the box. I think it’s polyester
