Can the TV go on the half bath wall?

It is a sectional. I'd would love to put it together if it could fit nicely! It's abt 8" by 8'6" when together.

pennydesign - The wall has a vent, built in bookshelf, and the cable wiring is currently in the corner where the tv is. I'm not opposed to it, but not sure what that will entail logistically and cost wise - first timer and on a budget! Attached picture of wall.

Lighting is poor, as I haven't installed any lighting/lamps yet, but I hope you're able to get a good sense from the below pics.

I was just thinking your sofa really only has two places to go. where it is now, or on the long wall with the other sectional piece on the short wall.

The TV can be wall mounted (do you have a Roku? Is your router in another room?) next to the bookcase or even in the bookcase if it fits).

I might consider shelves to fit on either side of the sticking out bit NO DEEPER to act as a kind of sofa table...

Oh and get some sliders to shove all this stuff around.....save your back...

Router is in the same room. No roku. The tv wouldn't fit in the bookshelf (too small) but I suppose I could mount it slightly off center. Would it look weird there with the tv partially covering the bookshelf?

And you can paint those return vents the same color as the wall. We lived with the white finish for years and I really have no idea why :-/

Hi happyleg - Against the 10ft wall, the tv would go in the corner, but felt too far and at a weird angle for tv view unless moved directly in front of the window... It felt uncomfortable.

Your sofa is beautiful! Don't even think of putting your TV on the bookcase wall!! Ever time someone would in or out the door they would walk right in front of it. Your sofa needs to be showcased on the long empty wall

Sankofa, lets try the sofa back on the window, but centered. The TV can go on the short wall (you can have the cable moved down, or get a Roku....I know I sound like an ad, but we cut the cable ages ago and will never go back). If not, we'll center the TV over that beam (you can just get a longer cable). Console underneath. My GUESS is that the beam is metal so that may preclude hanging the tv, bu that's just a guess.

Think about drywalling over that bookcase....it serves no purpose except to hold stuff you have to dust.

Get a swivel tv cabinet & put it right of fp. Put couch at window. U could put a glass or wood door on bookcase. If u hate the dust.

Pennydesign - Sorry I somehow missed your earlier message. You're right - I have been told the beam is metal by a contractor, so I can't nail through it. I will rearrange furniture tomorrow and send pics! Thanks!

Maybe still a console under the beam? We'll see. I think the sofa's dictating a lot here, but you have to work with it, and that's fine.

keep sofa in front of window. attach your sectional piece to sofa corner. (not great seating, as mentioned earlier, but comes in handy when you need it. tv needs to move to the far right corner. float your patterned chair directly diagonal from your sectional.

Irene's After picture looks like a perfect solution for you. The way it is now is ?? Maybe you stick your mother in law in the chair?? Lol

A couple different options. Let me know which arrangement you like best or additional tweaks! So far I like all better than my original setup. Also, I was planning to get rid of the chair or move to my basement, so no problem if it doesn't work with the new setup!

I like the set up in the second picture with the extension against the wall instead of towards the doorway. You might consider rotating the coffee table so it runs parallel to the window and tv? Will the chair fit on the opposite side of the tv facing diagonally across from the corner of the sectional? It seems a little squished in that corner. If it blocks the pathway, you may need to find a chair that's a little trimmer, or skip it and have a couple of small poufs or ottomans available for extra seating if needed. Once you're good on furniture arrangement, it's time to start looking for a rug. I'd recommend one that's lighter in color overall with you sectional since you also have dark floors. That will provide nice contrast. You will want to get a fairly large one. I'm guessing 8x10 or 9x12, because you want at least all the front legs of the sectional to be on the rug. Do you have art and books that you will be bringing into the space? We can help with placement for those too if you like.

I, also, like the extension against the wall, but not being in the space it's hard to tell how it "feels"...if it crowds out the TV this way, then perhaps the way you have it in the last photo is better....

Would a new coffee table be in your budget? I think a round one would work better for you there.

Unfortunately I'll have to get rid of that chair. It's a bit too big for the arrangement.

What about getting rid of the extension instead? It seats one person, right? If you kept the chair you would have the same amount of seating...

I like the rug, I don't think it's too dark. You'll have lamps anyway.

I think the rug works well, it's nice and neutral and seems to coordinate well with your space. You can keep things neutral, or add one or two accent colors with pillows and art if you wish.

I do plan to get a new coffee table, so I'll will look at some round ones! Hadn't started to think that far ahead.

Going to go ahead and order the rug. Can I get away with 5'3 by 7'6"? I'm afraid of having too much rug if I size up to 7'6" by 10'6".

sankofa413 - which new arrangement do you prefer? you're the one living there. is this room for visiting or mainly tv watching or both? I have to say after seeing your updated pics - I like the first option over my original recommendation. you could leave the tv on that back wall (16 ft) and get a large display cabinetry/media console to unify where that vent/beam that's breaking up the room and you could probably fit a pair of club chairs with small round table on that left wall. something to consider. you got to do what works best for you!

You definitely need the bigger rug as it will go the same orientation as the room, and 5'3" on a 10' wall is just too small.

The curtains are very old; I plan to replace them. I'm not sure what to go with. I'm torn between picking panels to match my secondary colors (i.e. gold and a shade of purple) versus something more neutral. I'm actually liking the color from the old curtains and feel it'd be easy to bring that color into the room through matching/complementary accent pillows.

How old is old?

3 years and $10 from ikea! So I don't mind at all losing them :)
