is it all the same root??? what happens on the other side???

i would cut one side or the other.. and see how it responds ... just stop the strangling.. is my idea ....

no need to remove it all.. right now ...

ya know.. for me.. in MI ... strobus can grow 3 to 5 feet per year.. once it gets settled in ... perhaps you wouldnt need to buy such a large specimen .... since the whole reason it was so badly root bound.. was because of its aggressive growth rate ... eh ... next buy smaller ...

live and learn .... btw.. it might make a neat cut xmas tree .. you probably paid less for this one.. than you would a cut tree in xmas season ...

I would at least cut the ones that are wrapped around the trunk. The others that are visible are more or less in a natural configuration, that is radiating out from the center. And are visible because the tree is sitting too high, needs to have the soil level around it raised a bit.

If there might be more significant deformity out of view you definitely want to dig it up at end of winter and do what you can, as otherwise it might fall over or pinch itself off sometime in the future. I've had what turned out to be root-bound shrubs laid flat by snow about 25 years after planting.

==>> i would agree if it were some prime specimen ... but crikey.. this is a weed tree .. lol ...

it was 3 feet two years ago ... what is it now ... maybe 5 or 6 .. i dont know about bare rooting and major surgery on that size plant ..

EXCEPT ... exercise and experiments are always worthwhile ... if you are interested in trying ... and want to learn about it all ...
