I have a set sconces I want to use a couple of octagon 12 inch black mirrors a large white bowl and pitcher and a plate that is my moms. I have attached pics of these.

Few others things I have. Not sure if I should use all these things. Not sure how to group things. I also have an antique wooden high chair same color as furniture.

I do plan to get lamps for the buffet . How do you think sconces will look on each side of the window. I want to oversize the window drapes but not sure what style or color to use. What do you suggest

I would paint a different color first thing. The red is overstimulating for an entire room... Imo

Also the art work is 2 different sizes. Will that look ok on each side of the window? Or should I get new ones?

Yes sandy the red is staying . It was off white flat paint when we moved here a couple months ago .

The artwork size should be as close as possible. If it's off by an inch or so, it shouldn't be a problem. Or, if one is portrait and the other is landscape oriented, that would be ok too. But if they're off my a lot I can't see it working. Also, I'd like to see the frames match.

Is there a secondary color you'd like to use? The room is sort of eclectic victorian, maybe a nice contrast would be a green blue color in a velvet drape. Pottery barn has really nice lined velvet drapes at a moderate price. If you can spend a bit more than a discount store it would make a big difference, the velvet will look and feel better. The color I'm thinking of for pottery barn is stone blue. It's a green-grey-blue and it looks lovely with red.

That's kinda what I was thinking about the artwork too. I did find these pitchers at Kmart that I really liked. I know that sounds cheap but I thought the were really cute poppies

I used those drapes in my house. The red is a little different, it's got more coral in it, but you can get the idea

What is the brand name/color name of the paint you used? I can find compatible colors for you if I know this.

Since you have already decided to go with red, I'd suggest to find your secondary contrasting colors. It looks like your style is traditional, therefore; you should select only those traditional decorating items that you already have. I wouldn't use the two paintings you have, I'd use only one (the one with red accent flowers). I'd change the flooring if possible and get a nice traditional chandelier. Dont forget that this room opens up to your formal living room, so you should make sure that this room flows with it. Hope it helps.

The items on top of china cabinet need to come down. Can the artwork be used on two different walls, then it wouldn't have to be symmetrical. If you have other similar artwork in different sizes, you could make small groupings in different areas of room. Is there another smaller doorway in the room? Could you use sconces to flank the door?

The paint is valspar cinnabar is the color. Thank you so much !!!!!

The only other doorway goes into the 12x14 breakfast room which is to the left if the china cabinet

How about putting china cabinet on angle in corner? Then you could flank the breakfast room door with sconces.

Often paint company's websites will give you ideas for compatible colors, so I went to the Valspar website and searched cinnabar, and this color was not found. I wonder if it's discontinued? What I can say is that on my monitor this is a strong color. I would want to tone it down with neutrals, like gray or ivory linen.

How about a pedestal in each corner on buffet/sideboard wall with tall flower arrangements, playing off your artwork? Something with large lush blooms, like peonies, roses, hydrangea and some greenery that trails down

Sorry if its darkish, it's so cloudy here today. The colors aren't really right for you but the idea is what I wanted to show you

I would paint the chair rail, the baseboard trim and the door frames the same red in a contrasting finish (semi gloss). This will will instantly feel more elegant and calming.

It's hard to see the chandelier but it looks like crystal, very nice, I would keep that. Your carpet is not doing the room any favors - a quick fix would be to put a rug over it, something with colors that contrast nicely with the red, maybe some corals, blues and greens. Your window is beautiful and large, drapery will look great, in a fabric that matches the formal style (velvet, silk) The mini blinds have to go!. I would put a fern or plant with trailing leaves on the top of your cabinet, I also agree that those tall objects should come down, it looks unbalanced.

You do need to do something with the empty spaces next to your mirror. Think balance. Something long and tall - since you already have a crystal chandelier, sconces in that same style would look great. You could also put small side tables in each corner and top them with topiary plants or indoor dwarf citrus trees.

I was thinking I would put a tall slender lamp on each end of the buffet .

I know people are telling you to change the red, but it's really good. You just need to decide what your final accent colors are and stick with that. Unfortunately, I think the only things that really "go" with what you have in there currently are your sconces and your little octogon mirror. Since you've used a dark color, and since you also have dark wood victorian furniture, you need to really pop in some contrast to pull it off. I would suggest black and white only for the rest of your accents, and window treatments. Also remember that unless you want to live in a museum, you don't have to go with strictly victorian accents. I would also suggest a large rug for over the carpeting at some point too. Here's what I mean when I say you need to choose your contrasting colors and stick with it:

You were absolutely right to paint your dining room the bold color, it's a room that can be used for a pop of color since you aren't always "living" in your dining room. Love your color choice and you could incorporate some wonderful accent colors for your room. By the way, love your furniture. But please, keep it clean and simple, antique furniture like this can carry a room. If you add to many items, this color and and furniture style can look dated and heavy. With these dark walls and your dark furniture, I think you should not use the dark sconces. Just add a few "new" colors to keep it fresh! Not sure what Cinnabar looks like but here are a few color combination ideas. It will be gorgeous!

Yes, love tall, slender buffet lamps. You need to find some old silver, large porcelain serving pieces, candlesticks and crystal for buffet and for centerpiece on table. Doesn't have to be expensive, you could find silver plate at antique shops and home sales. Crystal at homegoods or Marshall's.

Very nice, still think the stone blue velvet drapes from pottery barn would look beautiful with it.

Here is some of my final product. Still have to get more greenery for for top of china cabinet. Hope I made you all proud. Still need to get new light or paint this one but will do that soon. Any more ideas send them on.
