area rug size for nook area

What are the correct options for a rug underneath a 7'x3' daybed/couch? It is against the wall in a small nook of the family room. I have approx. 1.5' on either side of the arms and about 2-3' of space in front.
Is a 4x6 that peeks out in the center ok, or do I have to go wider?

What happens after the 2 to 3' in front? Is there a table or something that should also be on the rug?

it's a walkway into the living room. would a 5x3 peeking out from underneath anchor the area enough? right now, couch looks lost by itself. It is the marlow daybed couch from crate and barrel. http://www.crateandbarrel.com/marlowe-daybed/s606340

I can put a table on the end by the arm with a lamp or, can find a "c" table that nestles underneath the foot area of the couch.

Yes I think a 5x3 would work - and then put a tiny little table in front off to one side - something like the martini table from West Elm...
