didnt you just plant them ... throw in transplant shock ... and perhaps improper watering at bigbox over summer ...

she didnt have them in spring ... but i also think of virus as a spring early summer thing .... meaning when its noticed ... by mid september.. in my MI ... the answer is always fall .. or some other stress ... like my 2 6 week droughts this summer ....

in first pic.. if it was early spring.. i would have suggested frost or freeze ...

the last pic is wonky ... its weird .. and only chris might see something weird ...

I did just plant them a couple weeks ago so stress could be the factor. We have had two hurricanes close by so rain hasn't been an issue.

Even if it does have HVX will it still come back next year? Then i could tell better next spring, or will it just die off over the fall.

HVX does NOT kill the plant. Do a Google search for HVX and start to educate yourself on the various visual expressions of the virus so you can be more informed in the spring. And do not hesitate to post pictures if you're not quite sure....

It won't "just die off over the fall", but rather it will lose its leaves and go dormant. Just hope you have enough cold weather to keep it dormant over winter.

Babka what do you mean you hope we have enough cold weather.. we had snow flurries for a whole 10minutes last winter!! Haha

For them to thrive, they need to go dormant for about 6 weeks, with temps under 40 degrees. Hope your soil temps stay cool.
