I’ve had this marvelous quilt stuck in my mind since I first saw your posting.

Is the Swoon pattern available in sizes other than 16” ? Would a 12” block be to fiddly to work with?

I was watching an old Sanford & Son program. Fred was “sick” and in bed. Look at his quilt!

I had to reference your quilt and this very poor screen shot to decide “Swoon” and “Carpenter’s Star” are almost identical. I gotta have one. That is my goal for 2018!

Caroline, If I figured correctly, each square is 2" finished. So she cut her squares at 2 1/2" and ended up with a 16" block.......if you cut your squares at 2" you will end up with 1 1/2" finished square. 8 X 1.5 = 12 Draw it out on graph paper, it definitely could be done.

The differences I see between the two patterns is the Swoon has a center square of the same fabric as the HST star points. The Carpenter Star uses HST in the center and uses more white around the center star. There's a lot to be said for color placement. :-) Good luck!

Caroline...Sharon is giving you the correct advice, draw it out on graph paper and then you can decide what size you want. My blocks are 24" square, so they are Hugh. I did not buy a pattern, I drew it out on graph apaper and followed from there to make the blocks. After you make the first one, and get how to assemble, it's fun to put your fabrics together. Personally, I wish I had more blocks with three fabrics, rather than two, but it was just fun to make each block.
