We would like to put a rug in the sitting area during the winter for cosiness. We have been considering a made-to-measure darker grey with a pile that gives some light and shade and there is an option to add a suede border measuring anything up to 10cm. We don't want to chop the room in half and would welcome advice on the placement of the furniture on the rug to help us estimate the size needed. Will it make the room look smaller if the rug edges skim the front of the sofa and the chairs but sit under the chaise or should all the furniture sit on the rug? We are wary of 'chopping the room in half' if the rug is too big. Also we cannot place the rug directly up to where the wood burner is for safety. The seating does not have 'feet' as you can see by the photos. The area is actually larger that it looks in the photos. Advice would be welcome.
