Here's a quick and dirty example of how your quilt might look. None of the stripes are straight because they aren't on the picture.

Of course, if my estimate of your stripe widths is wrong, it will look a bit different. Furthermore, where you lay out your blocks when cutting will affect the look as well.

Bev, here's how mine turned out:

I simply backed it with Minky and didn't use any batting. It's a smaller size than I normally do. Anyway, it's really difficult to tell how a particular stripe will turn out until it's done. I saw the tutorial on Missouri Star Quilts and since I had this stripe and no clue what to do with it I decided to try it out since it looked like an easy and interesting project. But I'm not particularly fond of it. I keep this folded at the foot of a guest bed for a quick coverup for a nap on a chilly day - (not too often for that to happen here in Florida.)

Crrand1, thank you so much for putting the fabric and pattern on the computer. I don't have that capability. I don't think that is the look I want for my friend's quilt, although it is a nice looking quilt. The fabric is the right color, her favorite is teal and the fab is really teal, not blue. I'll have to look for another pattern.

Rita, I love your quilt! That's a neat pattern. It would be a fun workshop project, to see how different stripes look made up in the same pattern.

I made it. It was somewhat difficult for a beginning quilter. It had a lot of matching for a newbie. What I found is that it was just too much the same. I loved the fabric on the bolt, but when I started laying it out, it was just "too blue", or something. My quilting friend suggested that I sash it in white, which I did. It helped, but not enough. The top is still sitting there. I disliked it so much, I didn't have it quilted. Now, that I've looked, I don't even have a photo of the finished top.

Thanks for the follow up. It's always frustrating when you don't like how something turned out after all the work and expense.

I spent a couple of hours last night googling quilt images to try and find a pattern I think would work with the fabric. I think I'll just go with the above. I don't have to buy anymore fabric and it should be quick and easy.

I actually like the wonky stripes in the mock-up. It looks like one of the optical illusion quilts.

I hope the hysterectomy is all that's needed and your friend recovers well.

I think this is one that you won't know how it will turn out until you just do it. Also I think there are those who won't particularly like it (like me) and others who will love it. The size and variety of colors of the stripes will make each one made completely different.
