With the drapes, note that you really need 3 panels to achieve this look. However, you might be able to "cheat" by arranging one panel tighter than the corner one. You'll also need new rods.

Alternatively, you could have them reconstructed by a drapery-maker.

I am noticing that many of the photos of bedrooms, in your ideabook are bright and airy and have no drapes or lighter drapes. You might consider this when you re-address your drape situation.

A light tufted bed would look good and break up all the brown furniture.

You have plenty of room for a king-size bed. An Eastern King is shorter and wider than a Western King (6' wide by 7' long).
I had a W King bed, two night stands, a tall dresser and a long dresser, and a small desk in a 12x12 room, so you have LOTS of space for everything.
Make a measured drawing on graph paper, if you like, but in my not-so-humble opinion, a Western King will fit where the queen bed is, no problem. It's just a little longer and wider than a queen. You will sleep better and everyone will be happier. Of course, you will need to buy new sheets.

This is the bed we both liked from EA. It is traditional but without the footboard I think it gives it just a touch of a modern look. Very clean. And the legs on this are really pretty. And it is off the floor 10 inches which as I’m looking at photos appears to make a bedroom look lighter and more airy which I think might be good when we get a larger bed in this room.

I also measured the dresser wall to the door—13 feet so a king would fit there but nightstands not so much. Plus putting it on opposite wall means nothing could be on the wall next to the bed. Almost makes the room feel more cramped. I also like the bed as the focal point of the room. I just will need to dress it up nice once we get a new bed. Which from EA we have to order and wait for. Bummer. If we do buy this bed should we also order one dresser in the same wood. And then find something different for the nightstands? Not sure what.

Room color is SW Threshold Taupe. Looks taupe during day and more green at night. It’s much brighter in the room when it’s not raining which is when I took these pics. I kinda like the color and the drapes. But for years we had nothing on the windows. And I have blinds on my greatrroom windows and nothing else and do like that look. See pic. Very clean. But I thought for the bedroom drapes made it a bit more cozy. IDK. So do I need to paint too?

This is in my idea book. I really like this too. I’ve seen beds like this but think maybe our room is too small for this. It just looks cozy but dressy to me.

The bed is a good choice for you, as far as style. You seem to be a bit traditional, but want to make the room feel more updated.

A lower bed does make the room feel more spacious. However, your ceilings are plenty high, so I wouldn't make that my prime concern. Just make sure you are comfortable getting out of a bed that is lower.

You don't have enough room for chairs at the end of the bed. But, you can add some on the wall where the small chair is now.

I am so sorry about your cat. Losing a pet is not fun.

Thanks CDR I have to think about the height thing of the bed. Good point. I know I’m getting ahead of myself here but for the EA bed if I tuck the bedding in—can I still do a fluffy comforter in winter? I really like the clean lines of the tuck and showing the end of that bed.

Dawn, you can tuck it as in the EA photo, as long as it is not too bulky. You could also tuck under a light blanket and then fold the comforter across the bed.

I think the EA bed will look nice with your long dresser and I'd eliminate the taller chest of drawers. The best location for a bed is opposite the entry. Studies show you achieve the most restful secure sleep in that location. Consider floating shelves instead of night stands. They can be very tiny - you only need them to hold a few items, and lighting can be wall hung or simple slender reading lamps.

What is the width of the space between the windows and what is the width of the EA headboard?

I think the EA bed is a lovely choice for your room. The railings all around versus a footboard give it a lighter feel. It also has a nice updated feel as compared to your current bed but still gives you a traditional feel. You could consider a round night stand to keep it from feeling as though it overlaps the window too much. If you consider a 4 or 5" box spring, you won't have the issue of the box spring showing over the rails of the bed and have to deal with how to cover it. You could then purchase a double pillow top mattress to make up the height. I also like your current wall and drapery color. They give the room a warm, cozy feel. I agree with deco that you should keep the bed on its current wall. It feels as though the builder meant it to be that way from the thoughtful placement of the windows. Because there's so much room between your windows, I think you'll hardly feel the 6" difference on each side.

Chairs for sure! Do you like to see yourself in the morning? Heard someone recently say they rolled over in bed and scared themselves in the mirror!

Space between windows is 11 feet 9 inches from window trim to trim. I actually saved a few photos of round nightstands to my master bedroom folder—was thinking the same thing about not taking up too much space plus not having the night stands match the bed. Lol deco— good point on the mirror— depends on where exactly I put it. First thing I see in the morning is my hydrangeas outside my window:). I’m will check on how tall that footboard is to determine big spring size. All such good things to think about. Very happy I’m asking now before I buy!!

That Ethan Allen bed footboard is 15.875 inches all the way around so a 10 inch box spring should be fine I would think. We have one other store to get to this week for beds. If we don’t see anything we love more than then the EA one I posted— we’ll probably order it. I do need to see what dressers they offer that would either coordinate with the bed or match it.

You have plenty of space for nightstands. You have 141". I'll bet that EA KIng bed is no more than 80-85 or so wide, with the frame. Most king frames will be in that range. Even at 85, that gives you 56 inches, or 28" of width on each side for nightstands. You'll need to leave some space between the bed and the nightstand, but you could probably have a table/nightstand that is around 20" wide.

Where the bed is now is definitely the ideal spot. I would move the drapes, though.

CDR you are right it’s 82 wide. That is good. It is 92 long because of the curve of the headboard tho. But I think that will be ok? I would have about 41 inches between bed and dresser.

Yes CDR I mean the cost. Funny how I start to talk just a larger bed and it turns into dresser and bed. But dresser is so pretty and our current ones are so old and again a mishmash. Then I will need new art over the bed as the current one will be too small. And of course new bedding which I’m totally ready for.

You might consider placing the new dresser where the smaller dresser and chair currently are. I'd place a mirror over it. I know we talked about the chairs there also, but I like to give alternatives and encourage exploration of options. You could put the dresser on sliders and try moving it there.....see how you like it.

Consider what you'd use the chairs for. For example, do you sit in the chair that is currently in your room. Why or why not? You could consider a bench where the dresser currently is.

Placing a lighter-toned bench where the dresser is, and moving the dresser to the current chair wall would make the space feel much more open.

The art you currently have over the bed will not be too small width-wise for the new bed. However, notice that in both inspiration photos, while the tones overall are warm, there are touches of burnt orange, which break up all the earthy, brown tones. I also recommend a taller piece of art.

Here are a couple that would update and brighten your space. The first one might be a little out of your comfort zone.

Ohhh I like the idea of a bench. We don’t currently sit in that chair. Well I don’t. My hubby uses it when getting dressed though a bench would probably be better for that type of thing. Will definitely consider your suggestions of trying new arrangement of dresser and bench. Should I but a mirror over the dresser that comes with the dresser or find something else after the dresser gets here.

I'd buy a unique mirror. You could find something more interesting and likely less expensive.

You can try the new arrangement, using your current dresser and perhaps a bench you have as a mock-up.

The wood trim on your windows is beautiful and it looks as though you have a lovely view to wake up to in the morning. Your room is going to be beautiful when it's finished!

CDR I like the 2nd softer piece of art. Are you thinking large piece of art over bench across from the bed I assume. I like that idea. Once we finalize the bed and potentially the dresser I’ll start thinking about all that. Plus color or all neutral in this room. I took a couple photos today as the sun is shining and got a few different angles. I saw a pic on a Houzz that had blue with taupe. Might consider that for bedding but also like a creamy white with texture for bed to keep it light in the room. I’ll have a while because it can take 9 weeks for the bed and dresser to be made and delivered. Ugggh. Seems like forever. We still have one other store to go to as well.

Here is a bedroom with with soft blue walls but taupey looking drapes and carpet. I don’t want to paint mine blue but thought maybe I could do soft blue bedding with my taupe walls.

Also like this lighter warm bedding.

I was thinking of that art for over your bed. You don't necessarily need something on the bench wall. Maybe floor lamps on either side of the bench.

You are correct to get the main pieces in place first.....then select the smaller pieces. The next step is to situate the dresser and potential bench.

The Fawn Print (second one) would allow you to bring in the subtle blue-grey and golden tones.

So sorry to hear about your recent loss. It looks like you have a good bed choice, and a bench at the end of the bed is a good option. Don't forget painting can always brighten a room, and new bedding will help as well.

Thank you Design Directives. We are hopeful to get the EA this Saturday to choose the stain color of the bed and dresser. I’m torn on painting the room or leaving it as it is. It is painted SW Threshold Taupe and the undertones of it work well with our carpet in the bedroom and then coordinate with the mater bath color and tile color in there. I’m not even sure what other I’d paint it.

I love the color now. It's deep and cozy.

Yea. Finally got to Ethan Allen this weekend and ordered the below bed in a king and the dresser. Now we have to wait about 9 weeks to get it. In the meantime we are going to go look at carpet. Ours is 20 years old and has seen better days. Once I get to a flooring store I’ll get samples to bring home. We decided to keep the walls as they are SW Threshold Taupe. Interesting enough the “room” the bed and dresser were in was painted the same color. It looked so nice in the showroom and it was near a window so real light too.

What do people suggest for carpet these days? I don’t even know what’s in. I don’t want trendy but something classic.

I would buy something that looks good with the rest of your flooring. That is important. Also, I highly recommend not buying carpeting for the bedroom only. Keeping consistency in carpeting and flooring overall, gives a cohesive feel to the home.

It appears that your carpet is plush style (cut). This has gone out of favor, as it tend to how traffic patterns over time. I'd go with a loop, that feels more modern, yet is timeless.

I agree with CDR that a loop carpet is a much more modern look. I would look at wool for the best wear and easy cleaning.

Ok thanks for the recommendations. We will check this out once we get to the a flooring place this coming weekend. We did have a home where the carpet kind of flowed all the same from room to room but we replaced the great room carpet just a few years ago and that is what runs up to the bedroom. That and the bathroom tile. Appreciate the feedback!!

Well another day helping my sister with her rug hunt and now back to my own. Carpet.....ugggh harder than I thought. We looked at the loop carpet whic is what we have in our great room and honestly don’t want that look and feel in the master bedroom. We both like the cut carpet I guess you call it. They are so much softer and plush. I want to get out of bed in the morning with bare feet and feel this soft carpet. But I am struggling with the color. I want to keep it light in color as well but nothing really looks great butt up to the carpet in the hall which is also runs into the great room. Here are 2 pics with the tile in master bath and the carpet in hall. It is close in color to what we have but the undertones are different. Not sure these pics even even close to the true true color. These are night with lighting. Don’t have day pics yet.

If you're going to do a plush, I would avoid nylon. It wears down quite quickly.

Does it really. We have nylon in here now and it’s 20 years old. How long should it have lasted? Granted it is worn in front of the bathroom but that took a big hit when we redid the bath. What should I look at for plush wool? I did but it dies not clean as well. Thank you

Oh it’s Smartstrand with 25 year wear warranty and lifetime stain and soul warranty. It’s REALLY soft and plush. Wonderful on the bare feet.

Sounds like it works in your situation then. I had to replace mine after 4 years. Yours sounds like it's much better quality.
