Speed Queen if you want an old-school toploader that uses plenty of water to flush those soils.

A frontloader with all the options and functions (prewash option, extra rinse, onboard water heating) if you want to stay with something HE.

Agree with dadoes that flushing is key. I have a Speed Queen front loader, and with its multiple wash and rinse cycles, it would get the job done. But a front loader like Mama P’s with a sanitize and/or allergen cycle might be most important of all. Those have on-board water heaters that really fire it up. If I were a vet, that’s what I’d want. Miele is the best, but so expensive. I think Mama has a Whirlpool Duet (?) so maybe she will comment.

I have this washer, and really like it for very dirty loads. I have laundry just like yours. My preferred detergent is Persil, and the heavy duty cycle with warm water, heavy soil, and extra rinse. Depending on the load, I will add a one hour presoak.

I needed a washer "right now," this was in stock, and I've not been disappointed at all.

The Miele Little Giant has "sluice" programs specifically for washing fouled laundry. They pre-rinse it twice, wash with hot (65C) or very hot (75C) water, and then rinse 3 times. Here's the video I posted:

We wash very dirty laundry In our business and you need to remove organic matter and sanitize.

-chemicals to break up and suspend dirt. Very hard to beat Persil 2/1. It has 5 enzymes. STPP (sodium tripolyphosphate) is good to add to the water to soften it and help the detergents. I sometimes add it to the second to last rinse as well.

-dilution and flushing

We have some stuff that we rinse with a hose or power washer before we put it in the machine. We sanitize with chemicals at that point sometimes. Once in the machine, dilution can be accomplished by smaller amounts of water and more rinses which can take a long time or larger amounts and less rinses, unless you have garments that are water proof or water resistant. It is almost impossible to clean these without a full tub of water. I sometimes wash rinse, wash double rinse. We have all SPeedQueen TL machines that are abused daily and soldier on with no repairs. Mine at home had one repair because someone left nails in their pocket.

For sanitation, you will need sanitizing chemicals or heat. we use both. We have the hot water heater close to the machine and turned up to deliver 165F in the machine I would prewash and rinse at a lower temp first to avoid setting what you can. Your husband would know what chemicals you need for what he deals with. Some human pathogens require chorine bleach at certain concentrations to sanitize.

The SQ TL has a regular agitator so gets everything very clean.

This may not be quite as large as capacity but everything gets very clean which is the most important to us.

Do what other professional offices and business do, get an industrial grade washing machine and dryer.

The Miele Little Giant in the above post qualifies as this, although as an entry level model (and may be all you need, although you did mention high capacity). I'd refer you to the Miele Professional website, www.miele-pro.com, where they cater to and service small to large business needs.

A few other points, be smart about how you do laundry, know the textile and what kind of stain(s), dirt and debris you are treating. Search for a document "Miele Guide to Laundry Care" very good insights and technically based advice in there. Another all purpose tip, get a dozen micro-fiber cloths and put all of them in a few loads, their presence should make a difference, although you may (depends on several factors) also see the garments wear prematurely.

A couple of us here have tried to buy the W6080 Octoplus, which is the next model up in the Miele Professional Line. Miele USA will not sell it for installation in a home.

I have the same one Amy has ( well her link is to Whirlpool 85. I have 8540 from Lowe's. When this came up I believe it may have a different color drum or something like that ). I have now had it for several months and am still quite pleased with it. This is my first front loader so I think some of my questions have more to do with the change to front loader than the actual model. But- while we don't have super dirty laundry I have noticed that it's really getting stains out and stuff that was graying or yellowing over time has been really freshened up since the new machine.

Quite pleased and am now considering Whirlpool for other appliances.

We bought a new maytag set approx. A year ago, top load and had a lrg drum, which was nice, but it wouldnt get our clothes clean. There is nothing more aggravating, i would wash the load 3 time to get some sort of clean but not clean. Needless to say i pretty much gave a brand new 1000.00 dollor washer away for 200.00 and i am still going to the laundro-mat. Im in search of a new set but i am a little trigger shy in fear of it not getting our clothes clean. I could have made this a lot shorter by just saying "dont waste your money on maytag top load". I wiil watch for any answers you recieve.

rita anderson - It might be helpful to look at Consumer Reports magazine ratings and could be money well spent. Your machine might be one of their mediocre-rated models. Within any given brand, some models do better than others. CR's tests for washing performance are based on their own lab methods, which are not identical to everyone's laundry challenge, but it is a starting point. I look at washing performance first, then gentleness, and next brand reliability when I research a machine.

Often when the clothes are not coming clean it is because the water is not hot enough. That is why it is important to get a washing machine with an internal heater of its own. In many homes, by the time the hot water goes through the pipes and gets to the washing machine, that water is cold. The clothes don't come clean then. @rita anderson - if you are going to buy a new washing machine, make sure to get one that has an internal heater. I like the LG washing machines myself.
