Jayme, yes there is a steep learning curve ;-)

Section 8 housing in California has a waiting list a mile long. I lived across the street from a Section 8 renter; once a month she would go out in the street and have a melt down, screaming F-words and assorted other profanity. And she thought the ambulance was her own personal taxi.

EZ, those are some great ideas! I especially like the pencil one, thanks!

@sstar...I am ready to delete it from my computer! LOL I just want to do houses..all the other, not so much, but I imagine, it is a part of many things...too much to learn today!

I will say absentee landlords are a real pain! They should have to live next to what they rent to!

My renters had to keep their yards up and if they were noisy trouble makers I evicted them. A few wanted to kill me...but I lived.
I would never want the responsibility of renters. I just finished raising three kids by myself and I'm shirking all the responsibility I can! Hahaha!

Most of the owners on my street are original owners and a lot of the homes will turn over in the next ten years. It's a wonderful neighborhood now, I do worry......

Not to say there aren't great renters and landlords..there are!

Eztia .. what's wrong with kitty; "surgery" sounds serious!
@bobbi - sounds a lot like every day here. In fact, a little like my 5 minutes ago.

@jayme - sketch up is fun to play around on, but its bloody hard to actually master.
    @eztia - I hope it's not serious.
Eztia - Ugh .. I remember those cleanings for my cats too! And the bubble gum pink antibiotic afterwards, that she hated. She'd get it in an eyedropper .. seem to swallow it, then open her mouth & shake it all over the kitchen afterward!
@Etzia -- sorry for the unexpected expense, our darn fur babies are costly sometimes but the love they give us is priceless. The vet sends cards out to get Mocha's teeth cleaned, but she's 12 years old and I'm afraid to put her under unless I absolutely have to. So far, her teeth seem fine, but her breath is horrifying sometimes.
kimdee - Often a bad odor in the mouth is an indication of dental problems .. for people & pets!
I'm sure she has some buildup.... I will keep an eye on it though for sure for any tooth issues.
Bad cat breath can also mean they just ate a mouse not 5 minutes ago and want to share the essence with you.....

My two small dogs had a dead rabbit in their kennel this morning

STK and Jayme - thanks for sharing! Eeeew is right!

R just bought himself an iPhone 5. I'm holding out for the 6. hehehe

    Wow, pretty cool!

Some of our neighbor's kids at our BBQ. And the dog.

Looks like it was a lot of fun, bobbi!

Crap. I just made myself a epsom salt heat pack, and I got epsom salts all over the sofa. Ergh.
I wanted to do that too! But, landing hard on the ground in ice cold water.....not for olld bones!

Astraea, I love how you love and cherish wild animals. Please be careful. We had an incident here. Please read.

Morning all, my head is pretty much fogged up like the rest of Sydney this morning, I came on yesterday's thread by mistake. Thank goodness the sun is breaking through now, but it has been a late start without the planes to wake me this morning.

Kutchie, you should be on the stage - you just crack me up everytime. Thanks for the rental info - that sounds more like what we would call public housing here only the houses are built, owned and managed by the government. Many of the people are really going through tough times but way too many are unemployable junkies and nutters that trash the homes and do nothing but cause trouble. The crooked middlemen are what would worry me the most but there is no other way one could manage a rental from the other side of the world.

One time here a Current Affairs show went into a no-hoper street had everyone complaining how they wanted jobs, they wanted off welfare but no one would give them work. The programme set about lining up employers who were prepared to give them a go on the understanding that the whole thing would be documented and televised. Half didn't even show up for their first day of work and I think the best one only lasted about 2 weeks in the job. When you have 6 kids, it is impossible to earn anywhere near as much money in a bottom of the ladder type job as you would get not working and claiming child support, rental assistance, etc, etc, the Govt gives you, so where is the incentive to work. The whole system is screwed.

I used to feed my cats a chicken wing (raw) every day and chewing the bones kept the tartar under control on their teeth and they never had to have them cleaned at all and never a mouth problem.

Bobbi, Rocky looks like he enjoyed too much bbq.

Judy - I have always been concerned about wildlife and bites, there are many nasties they all carry, even pets can fall victim to them. That is really bad though the authorities trying to cover it up, privacy laws have gone over the top ridiculous. There is nothing private warning people of potential danger.
Ez, sorry your projects have to go onto hold for a while, that is one downside to cats, there is very little treatment vets can give them without totally putting them out, which just bumps costs way up.

Thanks for posting the moon photo Jayme, that was how it looked Sunday night here, it is just amazing. It is only early evening it looks like that, I think it is the sunset that causes the orange glow and it looks so big because it is so low in the sky. As it rises in the sky it goes back to yellow and gets smaller. I will 'attempt' some housework with you, that is all I seem to do lately, too many interruptions yesterday.

Well, long day and going to go try and do some reading for school and hopefully get some sleep. Clearly I do not know how to barbeque since I burnt a lot of the food but I guess the only way I will get better is by trying. A lot was had by all and it is always good to be with family. I am blessed to be able to have family around to celebrate and have a good time.
Ez-sorry that things are not going well for you right now. It will get better soon.
I wish we could meet Ez, you truly are the most amazing and beautiful person. I guess on the positive side too, the missing silvering on the mirror would help hide a few new wrinkles too - I could handle that.
    Agreed! Much love, Auntie Ez!

    {You are all lovely, warm hearted ladies. And Astrea, thank you for the battyness :)}

Judy – Sorry the article focuses so much on the “information blackout” about who it was; I don't know how someone could be bitten in their own house, without realizing until there were symptoms .. and this isn’t someone who lived alone, either. I was bitten by a baby raccoon; my dumb move .. pretty sure it wasn’t rabid .. but I got the series of rabies shots immediately, just to be on the safe side.

Roo – I jumped to the conclusion too about a “cover-up”, but apparently they did tell people about the incident .. just not who the victim was. I think that’s foolish too, but might have been the wife’s decision not to tell people.

Eztia - When I had my diabetic cat, one time he became very dehydrated & sick, and his 5-day veterinary hospitalization pretty much ate up my whole bonus for the year. I had gotten my check about the same time the cat was at the vet, and was left with $13 after the bill was paid!

Excuse me, S. Thomas Kutch, very many Australians DO KNOW where Memphis is ! In fact, us Aussies know more about the USA that you do about us !
You tell him lk :)) Yeah - come and join us I need support.

lk - did you ever watch the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City? Roy and HG had done a show called The Dream at the Sydney Olympics that was hugely popular, the athletes were absolutely queued up to be on it so they took it to Salt Lake City. At the end of each show they picked an American at random to do a weather report for Australia and had a map showing all the Capital Cities and the "major towns". All the towns were ones with lengthy Aboriginal names that everyone has difficulty pronouncing and not one capital city was in it's proper place. I have never laughed so much at people trying to seriously do a weather report, knowing they were on live TV, and trying to get their tongues around the Aboriginal place names but not one person picked up on the capital cities. They had Sydney in the middle of the country - it would have been like putting New York where Houston is - yet no one picked it. I just did not believe it possible.
Astraea, I don't have a problem with them not publishing the victim's name, people are entitled to privacy - you would probably feel a bit of an idiot not taking immediate action, but definitely the news should have been published to warm people of the potential dangers with guidelines of what to do if bitten.

Roo - Take a trip to Wales, and try to read street signs! Even when you see all the letters, you've no clue how to pronounce the name! What are Aboriginal names like?
    last modified: 13 years ago
Oh, yeah all the mwffwnys - I did crack the code one time but I have forgotten it.

Aboriginal names are very sing song and roll off the tongue well, once you get the hang of them. Coonabarabran, Caboolture, Goondiwindi, Mooloolaba, Kununurra, Joondalup, Indooroopilly, Mullumbimby, Woolgoolga. We had an American comedian here, I don't think he did much in the US but he made it big on TV here (Don Lane). Anyway we have suburb in Sydney called Turramurra - the U is said as in "up" but he just couldn't get the hang of it and kept calling it Tooorramooorra.
Roo - How many letters are there in the Aboriginal language; it's often an indication of only having about 15 letters, when letters & syllables are repeated several times in a word .. and the words get longer. I think Hawaiian is like that too.

Yes, I think that many of the letters are silent in Welsh, and the others are pronounced ways you wouldn't expect :)

Likely the poor man was asleep when bitten. Once symptoms appear, there is nothing to be done if a person hasn't already been vaccinated.
Now you have opened a can of worms, astraea, they have no written language, this will really confuse you

Houzz has been asleep again - just got an email about Kd's comment on the epsom salts 23 hours ago which was how I came to find astraea's and studio's comments of 6 hours and 3 hours ago. Wonder how long it will take to be notified of them.

KD what was the epsom salt heat pack for? Never heard of that.
Ms Roo -- supposedly, epsom salts draw out the lactic acid in sore or tight muscles. I have a knot in my neck/shoulder I was trying to get to let go... I just sprinkled some between two wet washcloths and wrapped it around a heat pack.
    Did it work?
Roo - Doesn't sound easy for someone to learn the aboriginal language, except as its spoken.

Kimdee - I use epsom salts in the bath; I wonder how effective that is for muscles!
Well, the knot is better today... I don't know if it's the epsom salt or the moist heat, but it seems to do the trick.
kd - I wondered about that, I just love my heat pack, I use it in winter as a hot water bottle too.

Astraea - I think our Aboriginal language would be a bit like your native Indian language - every tribe has it's own dialect.
