How do you know it was not structural? That appears to be a load bearing header / beam that spanned that opening and continued to the other side. If the header is sized properly (width and depth) for the span and load it is carrying across the new end points, then you should be good to go. This also appears to be in the center of the house, which has a high likelihood of it carrying some load. If the header was joined at the old post or is undersized and the old post was meant to distribute some of the load downwards, that is not a great idea. Either way, it is a bit late to be asking this question when you have already started finish work. Post up a picture of the raw framing and we can give you a better idea.

It's just the Sheetrock that isn't cut straight, the actual structure is good.

if you are absolutely sure that that is not a structural bearing wall leave the post out if not you are looking for troubles , its difficult for us to tell you know your house and hopefully the people who are doing this work have a good knowledge of what they are doing .
