Advice on variable speed fan control

Not related to Hydro but similar. I live in an apartment and I'm moving my BBQ smoker indoors. I have connected 4" duct work to the smoker with a 4" duct fan. I've tried variable speed control and they basically jump from 0 to max with not much in between. I need a speed control that would be almost infinitely variable from 0 to max. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

I believe something as simple as this inline fan speed controller should do the trick! Plenty of online hydro stores and Amazon carry similar types and brands. You shouldn't have to spend too much at all. You might be able to pick something basic up at your local hardware store as well.
