Here is a pic without the box!

My mind keeps wondering what the art piece would look like horizontal. Not necessarily that one.

What a gorgeous table you have! With one lamp it looks better, not overly formal. I for one do not like the bigger natural boxes you use in later pictures, but rather had the fake plants there. But it might be best to just leave it empty down there. The teal box in the middle of your second picture is statement enough.

So, I would have picked photo number two, but then moved the bowl with the bright balls in it to the place where the second lamp stands on the right. Well, actually about three inches more to the left and with a little twist. And probably take the plants away too. Done. So you are left with just three things: lamp on the left, bowl on the right and the teal box.

More is less. Less is more!

The more you try to put on it later on, the more cluttered it becomes. The second shelf right under the first one must definitely stay empty, for it competes immediately with the top shelf, no matter what you put there.

In my opinion it is not necessary that the picture is framed. But if you like that, it is not wrong either.

I somehow prefer the original baskets. The scale and texture seemed better.

regarding the stuff on top: NO clutter!! Less is definitely more.

It's just so commercial and impersonal. It looks like you just went to a 'décor' store and bought some stuff to fill space. That's okay in an office reception area, but not in a home.

it looks like you are just putting things on there that you won't really use. it looks very copied and like you are trying to make it look fancy. because that is what you think design is. sorry.

I just don't see how that whole set up is functional in anyway, it looks forced

why don't you look for what you really could use there
its not always about looks

I think they all look good. I'd save all the pictures and then change things around every month lol. I like to move around stuff, although right now our house is so small we have everything fitted inside like a puzzle.

Though I kinda think the little " bows" on the new basket would look better if they where a dark colour.

You're styling is great! I definitely prefer one lamp. I think a larger piece of art - something wider than it is tall would help to balance the console. How do you feel about a mirror? Good job!

@designhome,even if I put something personal or functional there I want to make it right, of course it's not all about looks but there some areas in the house that want be used daily ,since I don't like to display personal pictures or don't have anything else that I would like to share with people entering my I am just trying to make it right but I still appreciate your help,thanks.

there is no "right" in your home
it's supposed to be a home. if you're trying to impress then by all means look to designer pros here to tell you what's right or wrong
otherwise you can just, ya know decorate the way that feels right and then ask for design issues if you feel you need tweaks on your taste, not copy and paste what you see because you think that that's how it's supposed to be

I like one lamp and I would replace the gold piece with a real plant that is flowy, like an airplane plant, in a pretty pot ......maybe a blue. I know about the grouping of 3 rule but sometimes I think it looks like one is trying too hard. It should feel natural.

Designhome, thanks for making your point. It adds to the conversation, that Ariane is helped to see that home rules are not so strict.

Also realize people tend to have a wide variety of tastes. When there is no 'right', logically there is no 'wrong' either. So allow her to like it to be more formal. And thanks for taking the edges off of that.

It looks like frostedsleet just tried to take the edges off of you being rather frank. Been there, done that. Just the other day I tried to warn someone for a moneytrap, and someone else felt the need to trash me (frostedsleet did no such thing here). So I responded to that in defence. We Houzzers are just like people...

You mean well. But so do the others, here. Concentrate on other dilemmas where you feel your input matches more with the personal taste of the one asking the question.

let me tell you something there are lot of fabulous Houzzers out there Pros or regular people who actually enjoy giving advice or ideas who helped me to put my house together my house looks fabulous and well put together thanks to all of them!! I actually get a lot of compliments. Who are you coming to my forum and trash talk other people who are trying to give there ideas which I so appreciate!!!

Hi Ariane, no big deal. First I thought she meant well and was just getting frustrated during the process of honestly warning you. Frostedsleet tried to help, by countering it maybe a bit too much, which probably frustrated designhome even more.

I've been there, so I thought I understood. But when I tried some peace making, she couldn't take my hand. Since I don't like being spit in the face, I gave it back as raw as given. Don't mean it bad though.

We don't know what goes on in other people's lives anyway, what makes emotions flare. She might really be a nice person. After all, she did try to help here on Houzz, which is a nice thing to do.

People like that make me reluctant to ask a question. Some of us do have a lot going on in our lives and this is a place we can all share our homes and what we would like to do. It’s not life or death.

Okay peeps, let’s get back to Ariana’s entry. I do prefer the baskets on the bottom shelf, they have more texture and are a tad lighter. Nice place to stash gloves ( if you have a winter), slippers, flashlight. You get the idea. I like that the teal box matches up with the lamp, how about trying that the second shelf, not quite centered, but more on the right side. Angle it?
The large ceramic bowl seems too large, and if you use a framed picture, it doesn’t have to be a family photo - maybe a small piece of art that you like.
I like your lamp, I like the painting, and I like the use of one of the plants.

@pat1250 thank you for your comment! I have my husband making me a frame for the pic he is out to get the materials. I agree on the boxes I will go out later to return the boxes and get some baskets for storage I will play around and take pictures for some feedback;);)

Did you keep the gold container (?) with the three balls in it? If so, where did you put it? I bought the same thing last week and sadly I think it’s too large for my table. I’m trying to convince myself it works. Love it.

Hey Brenda,it is a beautiful piece! I have it for a while now I had it sitting on my sofa table in the great room I took it down cause my birds love to go in it and chew up the balls,it was driving me insane,LOL!! I will try it on my console in the upstairs hallway I am not sure it will work cause it is pretty big If not just to go back to the store.

I like one lamp, the little books and picture on the left and on the other side, the turquoise box. It needs a place in the spotlight! Baskets and books on lower shelves.

My hubby finished framing the canvas and it looks fabulous!!
I got new baskets too,I do like this baskets better than the boxes they open and close from the top so I can store anything in them without anybody seeing the clutter.

DH gets two thumbs up!!

If you can, I would relocate the art piece in another area of the entry and add a mirror that works with the wall space better. Maybe a round mirror with texture or a star burst type. It will add some sparkle!

Lovely! Can you center the table under the art? Looks a bit askew to me.

I just have to say, I love Houzz, especially this site, I am by no means a professional but have always loved design. I can be honest but in the nicest possible way, we all haven't got the same taste, thank goodness, but what some people love is not what we might and we have to respect that. Help yes, ridical no. This is my happy place on here, my escape from some of the things in my life that is worrying me.

Oh no. It’s back.

Move the box an inch or two left and put something behind it that is 1/2 - 2/3 as tall as the lamp. That's all you need. Too much stuff and you'll detract from the art.

Beautiful entry! You can also display seasonal items on that table when you walk in. Have fun!

The first one is better. The second one was too symmetric but with the orchid it looks nice. You could also add some nice books and candles.

I like the first photo better. However, you might add a bit of the teal blue color to the item on the right, such as a teal blue ribbon or string of beads wound around what appear to be balls of raffia.
