either is a nice look ... comes down to personal preference. here's an example of a room similar to yours with chocolate beams (you'll find A LOT more if you search on Houzz for "brown beams") ...

I would be torn whether to remove them or not. I would need to see more of the house. If you keep them I would paint deep brown.

Brenda's room with the chandelier is exactly what we are changing out the lighting to look like. I am nervous about the paint as the beams are smooth in texture and not rough hewn.

Consider also painting the ceiling the wall color so it doesn't seem so broken up. The beams will look better a dark color. Good luck

You have a beautiful home. Smooth wood can be sanded so it will absorb stain or paint. Why not go with the same colour as wood on your mantel?

We are going to box over the mantel, that old beam has developed a crack. We built the house and there are two beams in the middle and the builder attached two to the wall which I have always thought was strange.

Too bad! I like it. I am not a fan of what everyone else is doing.

Before you remove the track lighting, try aiming the lights up toward the ceiling, and putting them on a dimmer. Their function is different from a chandelier, and you may like the look of BOTH.

Yes... to repeat the obvious, dark color on the beams... if you can incorporate the same color into other wood in the room that might work, as well.
I am not a fan of track lighting, at all. However, minimalizing the visibility of the fixtures with the same, dark color would help. Big Plus would be the dimmer switch suggested by 'kitasei'. That would assist in creating a very soft, moon light effect in the evening especially as you have the skylights in the roof. That would, also, accent those fantastic beams.

What color brown is best to achieve the stained oak beam effect? How about Tudor brown?

We built this home 15 years ago. Trying to update the lighting, right bow the track lighting is all on dimmers.

I'd faux paint them to look like aged beams and would definitely leave the mantle crack and all. The brick inlay in the fireplace I question as it has no real appeal function. The stone alone is beautiful and doesn't require any additional decoration.

The brick was the builders idea... After building a home from the foundation up you get pretty tired making decisions ! I only wish I had Houzz then!!!

I agree with the deep brown color for the beams will accent well with the deep caramel color on yours walls.
