well, what are the 2 colors of the wood?

This is the original wood underneath. My fiance says it'll be hard to find an exact match and refinishing is not an option right now. He wants the 2nd color. I think it clashes. Im thinking if we cant match it, something dark?

I'm with you. The tones in these woods do not coordinate with each other at all. I would go with a very dark wood finish which would compliment the darker accents in the original floor. This will look like a deliberate design decision rather than a mismatch mistake.

Leave the carpet down until refinishing IS an option. Agree with PH above on color.

dark wood would be good in the rooms.. if you cant redo it now, then keep the carpet until you can redo it.
