Should retain foliage, losing oldest leaves as new ones grow on a continuous cycle. Btw, looks great.

Yeah, mine shows no sign of wanting to die back. Some tropicals do do this as they go through seasonal wet/dry cycles. In fact, mine still growing lushly. Really makes a nice plant. Tumeric root itself is supposed to be terrific medicinally.

That looks like an awesome house plant. I think I'm going to give it a try.

Really, really easy too. Mine is above a radiator (there a thick marble slab above it so the top is never hot), in Eastern exposure for the winter then outside in the growing season. Next year, I am planting a dozen and giving them away as gifts to friends. Just get the root from an Asian grocery and rest them on the surface. The one in the picture above was planted in June and the picture was taken in September. I also will use an occasional root in cooking. Remind me of lily of the valley!

I do NOTHING for it. It tells me it needs water when it starts to collapse. I am now experimenting with growing cardamon from seed (in the ginger family). Regular ginger is also EASY but mine never looks so hot indoors in the winter. Overall, the turmeric is a more attractive plant. Regarding soil, I would use something like a citrus or palm soil (something well-draining soil, maybe with some added perlite). I will wait till Spring to feed when I will probably start dividing the one above.
