Master Bathroom Layout problems

9 years ago

Hi all - I hope you can help me with some design questions?

I have attached the preliminary layout of the master ensuite below. A couple initial comments I had:

a/ Staggered alignment between bath and vanity - should they be more aligned?

b/ Linen closet could be moved somewhere else in the house to further grow the ensuite? Perhaps this would allow us to grow the vanity size or move the toilet into that area? We are also thinking of putting the linen closet behind the vanity in the hallway (makes vanity more flush with the shower)

c/ Should the bathtub be more centrally located first thing you see?

d/ Would be great to slightly enlarge the walk in closet. It could be slightly more narrow as we won't have a centre cabinet if that helps at all....

We can be flexible to increase the sq footage more, by I was wondering if there were really any good obvious solutions that could solve some of the questions above - we are stuck...

    I’m sorry I don’t have a solution but there a few things I can advise based on what irritated me about my previous en-suite or that I’d avoid.

    Don’t enter walk-in dressing room via bathroom; rather add a door to dressing area and access bathroom from dresser area;
    Close off door between bathroom and bedroom;
    Re-orientate the bath along this new wall, so you can get to the window easily instead of stepping into the bath every time you want to access the window;
    The WC is tiny, it’s looks uncomfortable,open it to the bathroom.

    I hope some clever Houzzers can help redesign with you. Good luck!

    The toilet closet is too small. It can't have a door. You'd have to just about stand on the toilet to close it. The rest is workable, except you shouldn't HAVE to go through the bathroom to reach the closet. The reverse is fine. The master closet size is fine.

    You seem to want a grand bathroom. It isn't scaled for that. Your house most likely isn't, either.

    You could ditch the set of shelves on the fireplace wall and shift the tub down, making the WC larger; then you could offset the toilet and the door. Wouldn't it be dreamy to have a double sided fireplace :)

    I would not have a toilet room at all, IMO anyone who uses the toilet while you are brushing your teeth or having a shower is an ass. I agree there is no space for a Grand bathroom which BTW is a waste of space and cleaning time. The less open storage the better in a bathroom so I would fogo most of the shelves around the tub.I never like seat that are built into showers they collect water and are just one more thing to clean , Get a nice teak bench that can be removed when not needed.I never like going through the bathroom to the closet the reverse is okay. I had a fireplace in a bathroom once it never got used except for the first week we lived there . A steam shower takes a lot of planning to install properly and again probably a novelty that will wear of quickly

    Thank you so much everyone for your comments. A couple items we will probably incorporate are taking out some of the bathtub shelving (perhaps on one side have something built into wall). Also, we will move the toilet into the linen + hallway and stretch the walk in to approx. 10x10...we'll start pushing the vanity and shower more into the bedroom. Thank you all again, and happy to receive any more advice!
