I think it looks beautiful. Have you thought about having the island a different color then the rest of the cabinets. I think white with a butcher block counter would look beautiful but that depends on your design stile it would also look good if the island was a wood color to match the trim around the doors with a lighter counter top. The lighter color would help visually down size the island and the closer the color is the the color of the floors will help it to not stand out as much....personally though I think it is to beautiful to not let it stand out. :)

What things about the current kitchen don't you like? Based on what I see on the floorplan, it looks functional to me and seems to have good flow.

There is one thing I don't care for in your new design -- this actually came up in a separate thread today. There is no landing area by your fridge, oven or microwave. Each time you want to put something in or take something out, you'll need to open the doors, swing around to the island to leave or pick up your dish and turn back to the appliance to deal with your dish. I'd much rather see a landing area right next to the appliance.

The island doesn't appeal to me.. I'd prefer the peninsula, but with 13"cabinets on the 'outside' (instead of upper cabinets), so the countertop will become nice and wide. Made you a layout with my idea; you decide if you want the sink or the cooktop in the middle (I'd say cook, because of the view). The dark grey cabinets are full height with the fridge in it. Imagine some shelves on the wall above the countertop. A custom bench below the window (storage!) and a slim table for breakfast and seating guests while cooking.
