I don't like the chairs where they are. They look lonely, like nobody would ever want to sit there. Kind of like a commercial space where people want to sit not too close to each other and definitely not interact.

I don't think that moving them to the space on the other side of the sectional would help that problem.

I would put them, if they both fit, on the near side of the sectional to make a third side to the seating arrangement.

For the empty space on the far side of the sectional, I would look for bookshelves or some other storage piece (credenza, etc.)

I would get a rug to anchor the seating area. It will warm up the room psychologically and maybe physically as well. And it will dampen sound a bit-- your room has a lot of hard surfaces, which can make a room less welcoming acoustically.

Actually I moved the couch over to make more room. This is how it looks.

For the wall I would do a buffet table/ credenza with a large painting to tie in all the colors on the wall.

I like that better than the before, although it's unfortunate that there isn't enough room to put a bit more space between the chairs.

I think painting all the walls in that dark grey would look nice and be a better backdrop for your light furniture, especially since your window treatments blend into the wall color. Then a rug. Then your art work over a table or credenza as LeNissa suggested. A lamp there would look good. Think about some table and floor lamps. Much cozier than the ceiling lights.

What a great start! I love the aqua and white with orange accents. The chairs will be fine if you scoot them away from the wall. Since it would look odd to block the fireplace with an occasional table between the chairs, and people like to have a place next to them for setting down a glass or other item, I’d put a very small drink table by each chair. That would be small in diameter. The height needs to suit the chair, however short or tall that needs to be. A rug that covers all but a foot or two of hardwood showing around the perimeter of the room, and large art over the fireplace will make the space.

A tonal patterned rug would be good. Make sure it is the right size for the room. I agree on using some kind of storage piece on the lonely wall with art above it. But the art should not detract from your fireplace wall, which in my opinion, should be the focal point of the room.

I don't think I have an answer about the chairs. They are side chairs and might be better on either side of a storage piece on lonely wall, but that might be too much on that wall.

I read the trend is to float furniture. When you have the space, design of the room supporting that I get it, but in a closed box like your living room I could not waste the space. The sectional is HUGE and you are increasing the floor space it takes up by not having it closer to the windows. You would then have ample room for your two chairs. If you put some sort of book shelf/credenza in the open space on the blank wall it would help the sectional placement make sense, ground it. A rug is a must. Dressing the windows, art would complete the look. I love your colors and design choices but now to finish.

We like that layout a lot better, and yes do a credenza behind the L sofa. You can add lamps and artwork to it. Also we do think a rug with look really nice in the space. Note in our designs below, in the first photo the fireplace wall.

Then here note the sofa table, the lamps could be placed on it for behind your L sofa.

Here are a few different takes on living rooms from some of our recent designs. We think a rug would work wonders for your space, and you could do a credenza like you see in our second photo behind your sectional.

This is a great room for art as you could go a number of different directions including both bold and subtle/refined options. If you have a budget in mind and can provide wall dimensions we'd be happy to work with our art partners to find some options that could work with or without a credenza.

You need a rug if you want to make this room work. I would go plain…as in the photo. Size is appropriately and get the two chairs on the rug.

The chairs seem to be the wrong color and style for the sofa, sorry :( Could you use the chairs elsewhere like a bedroom?

Get a credenza or something for the back wall. Put one lamp on it until you find your art, and put a great looking drinks tray in it. Then flank it with those two fireplace chairs. Get two chairs for the fireplace that are a bit more comfortable and that people will sit on.
