What you need is contrast. Get new bedding and a rug in a light color. The color does not have to be white it can be gray, beige or even yellow as in the second photo below.

I wouldn't have thought of using this strawberry red as an accent colour with tan, but I think this is gorgeous. Do use a light carpet.

@homeinteriorwithease - will my curtains mix well with the scheme you recommended? won't add too many patterns in there, would it? the curtains are black and off white. Also, what about lamps, yay or nay?

yes I think it will all go very nicely..the rug would be very subtle....would do white solid bedding...could add white or silver base lamps with black shades..love blues..Taupe and blacks very nice combo..

I would definitely add some shade of blue to this room. Maybe even use an accent to highlight the room.

Thalfmann...very pretty...we can change up the pillows to solids with one accent pillow in a pattern....love the idea of the deep peacock blue with ivory and black...walls look more tan toned than taupe....Let me find a rug with a bit more tan in it...

For wall art could do a set of silver and black accent mirrors or botanicals in black and white...so many ways to go..best to get the room decorated and save wall art and accessories for last.
