Storage for linens?

If you don't need the storage and it bugs you that much, take it out. Assuming the flooring runs under it. Painting it the same colour as the wall would make it jump out less.

Now I want a coffee station in my bathroom, sigh.

Anything I can think of would require electricity... Maybe you could access electrical from the backside of the wall. Then you could use it for a coffee machine for a morning java as you get ready. Or put a mirror above it with good lighting for putting on makeup or jewelry. Or just linens, as suggested. I'm assuming the carpeted area in the background is your bedroom? Do you have a sitting area in the bedroom? Maybe a snack stand for watching a movie or something?

run electrical,,,coffee station, wine bar, beverage center. or, do custom built it for lines or extra storage, have cabinet doors made. or,,,,do open shelving for whatever you need to display,,,i'm sure there are a dozen more ideas,,,,if you need them.

funny stuff nidnay. I too can think of several ideas with an electrical outlet. As an alternative, remove the cabinet and install open shelving for your towels. Something like this action...shelves with beautifully folded towels...

Take out granite and install wood shelves.

I would run electrical, too. Lol. Unless you don’t have a linen closet!

Add a darn outlet, . Put a Keurig there, and have a cup. Hang some great art above. You do have water nearby: ) Not a big deal in any scenario

Or make a wine bar for the evening hours, bring a bottle with you from the kitchen. Set a beautiful tray on it.........glasses..... a candle....... a little night music..... you know the rest. Add art. lol

Jan Moyer, you paint a nice picture! I do have a linen closet and there is a wine bar in the house already...it's a one story home. Adding an outlet does expand my options a lot, so I will for sure do that. Maybe add small floating shelf units with a hinge door to hold perfumes since wifey has like 20 bottles of the stuff? What about a custom jewelry armoire above?

Sounds like a plan! : ) Simply glass shelf /s edge to edge, DON'T put a door add edge to edge mirror behind the shelving ( Three? ) ,...... put some recessed lighting above and make it a show off spot for wifey, Buy more perfume: ) I don' t love the jewelry thing lol but wth, its your room.

Ah...OK. I can see the edge to edge glass shelving...looks clean, elegant. I like it! The recessed light above is also a good idea.

if you are going to add an outlet anyway, you can do whatever you like with that alcove... including removing the cabinet and putting something else there which would also require an outlet but at floor height.

if you dont love the cabinet itself, replace it with something you do love that fills a purpose suggested.

Could it be intended as a sort of packing shelf?

I think it's intended as More Useful Storage and Counter in an otherwise useless corner. Who has a problem with more storage? Heck, it could be a place to put things that are in progress going one place or another -- awaiting hand laundry, or books to read, or ... people have an issue with free cabinetry?

@PirateFoxy...what is a packing shelf? Like for luggage and such?

Reginald - yeah, that’s what I was thinking. Nice surface to put a suitcase on to pack and cabinets for travel necessities? You see luggage island sort of things in the super fancy huge walk in closets, and practically I could see where such an arrangement might be useful if you travel a significant amount. That would explain the lack of electrical or plumbing, at least. Just guessing though. :)

Personally, I’d look into getting it hooked up for some power since that’ll open up possibilities enormously. Coffee bar/morning kitchen, charging station if you’re like some folks and have an excess of gadgets, etc. Better to have a sensibly placed outlet and not use it than be stuck without and need it.

It looks very shallow--why not add shelving above the lower cabinet as a display space? for all your knick knacks and tchotchkes???

Reginald....I really like your idea of a jewelry armoire type cabinet. Doors that open to a wall of hooks for hanging jewelry. I like that. Or, combine the two of jewelry and perfumes shelves. Something like this...
