it depends how big the pot is. Do they get sun? Are they outside? Are they in ground?

Please provide a little more info!

also, if they are in a small pot, water them with like 1/2 cup water. Then, wait until it's slightly moist to the touch and water again. Moist is when it's not sticking to your finger that much. And, if they look like they are dying water again. They also could be dying from too much water.

@basilcook thank you! they were in a shady area of the nursery i got them from. theyre planted in a mix of rice hulls and something like a soil, but its mostly rice hulls. they are in 3-4 inch nursery bags. the little plastic bags with holes under. they seem to do okay, especially the rosemary.

Well, with those small of bags I'd water them a little less then 1/2 cup, maybe 1/4 cup water! Make sure not to overwater them!

I disagree with basil's method of watering using a limited volume. Plants need to be watered to saturation each time so that the whole root/soil system interacts with the water.....and then the potting medium allowed to dry out prior to the next drenching. In other words, watering should be gauged by frequency not volume.

If you don't provide sufficient water on a chronic basis, dry, hydrophobic pockets can form and roots will die within those pockets.

Drenching requires that you have a potting medium that drains rapidly and a container that allows for the evacuation of excess water readily. Overwatering means that you are watering too frequently for the needs of the plant and should have nothing to do with how much or little you pour in at any time.

After watering, you have to use your fingers to judge how moist the potting mix is day after day. Frequency will depend upon the type of mix used, the container, humidity in the room, temperature in the room, size of plant in relation to the container volume, time of year, and more!

I've never used a medium based on rice hulls, nor have I ever grown in a bag. Since none of us know your environmental conditions such as humidity, etc. we cannot advise you to the frequency. Only you can determine that.
