I once owned a 110v dryer back in my apt days. While it was nice to have a contraband dryer in my apt closet, which I attached a pantyhose to the exhaust tube and opened the door to the outside to give the moist exhaust somewhere to go (yes, my apt clothes closet had a door to an outside 2nd floor patio for some reason), it took FOREVER to get a load to dry. I'm not certain one would have the budget for the ensuing electric bill however. Technology is likely improved present day, but the 110v does not lend itself to heating high enough to get the job done in a timely manner. What I usually ended up doing was put the wet laundry in the 110v dryer for half an hour to get the clothing unmushed, then hung everything up to finish drying.

I had a very small haier washer and 110 dryer for my apartment about six years back. It washed a small amount of clothes (bedding was an issue. Sheets did well but no comforters). What I did was wash daily and hang dry (didn’t take long to dry since the washer spun them super dry) then popped in the dryer for about 20 min to fluff up and get wrinkles out. It cleaned clothes better than some other large washers I’ve had over the years. I bought a window vent kit so it could go out the window when needed and get some of the moist exhaust out.

Haier has a combo washer dryer too that’s much larger that I used in a restaurant I worked at for five years and worked good too. That took about 2.5 to 3 hours to wash and dry napkins. That unit was around 1100.00. The apartment size washer and dryer I had was around 300.00 for both on Walmart’s website or amazon. Not sure your wanting to go that route.

As for the lg I have a friend who bought one three months ago and she hates it. It’s broken twice now and it takes a act of Congress to get a repair person out there to fix. She has had four come by and say they can’t work on the machine the most recent time. She’s been borrowing my old apartment set that I still have since then.

According to the article below, Miele's new ventless T1 dryer with heat pump and W1 auto-dosing washer will be coming out in April 2018 and cost about $3,000 for the pair.

The new Miele washer/dryers are available to order starting April 2. Miele told me they have a bunch ready in their warehouse to ship. 3 models of washers and 2 models of dryers. Lowest prices I found for the high end units is just under $4,000 before tax including stacking shelf. Seems like the best option as rather have separates than a combo w/d like the LG. I will probably order a set from DrimmersNJ and try to use my $1,000 gift card for the Sub-Zero-Wolf package I bought a few months ago. Here is a good description:

Hope I made the right decision as far more expensive than I expected.

I noticed Costco has a few washer dryer combos (lg included) and if I remember correctly they are around 1800.00. One of the lg is a 4.8 cf capacity if memory serves correctly. That is huge for a combo unit. They also have smaller capacity units as well. I bought a washer dryer from Costco before and they are amazing for returns. Full 90 day return policy (no questions asked just come and get it and refund you) plus a full 2 year warranty along with free installation with all new hoses and cords included along with free appliance removal. Most places charge for new hoses/cords and removal. The two year warranty was great too as I got a lemon set and didn’t have to deal with the manufacture just Costco. They do everything to make it right and refunded me in full for a faulty sets

Following up on this. Curious if anyone has ordered the LUWM101HWA (LG Signature Washer Dryer Combo). It has been gyrating in price between 3199 and 2879 for some time now. It uses a heat pump instead of a condenser so that makes for eliminating the heavy water usage on the dry cycle that these combo machines usually have, and the drying works at a lower temperature. I saw one on display at Costco and I have to say it seemed very well built with a very large drum for a compact, almost like a smallish full-size, but there were some design aspects that concerned me -- especially the rather large standoff between the drum and the rubber seal around the door, which leads me to think the large number of reviews complaining about small items getting stuck are on to something. Indeed, the user manual of this machine advises you to put small items in a mesh bag to be washed, which I've not seen advised for other combo units or compact washers.

I'm looking to replace a 16 year old WM3431HS washer-dryer LG combo. It's really either this in the current under-the-counter laundry slot I have, or Miele separates and remove one of my lower kitchen cabinets to accommodate the dryer. The Miele seems more idiot proof and clearly will not allow small items to escape into the plumbing, but feels perhaps not quite as well made overall, though the Miele drum is really, really nice and I think nicer than LG.

Miele not as well made as LG? That is a joke right?

@luna, the outer casing, things like the plastics on the detergent drawer, the door etc, did not seem as well made on the Miele as the LG. Obviously it's not possible to take a machine apart on the floor of an appliance store. The Miele drum is a cut above, very, very nice as I said. Note LG's 20-year motor warranty and I believe 10 year heat pump warranty on this machine.
